Happy New Eternity. Getting From Here to There.

We are deluged with goals that others want us to have. Every business wants us to have the goal of making it richer.  We are encouraged to buy BMWs instead of Toyotas, or to eat at McDonald's instead of Burger King.  Every product and service touts its advantages.  In politics, every candidate wants us to have the goal of getting them elected.  Every person and group in every government wants us to have the goal of supporting them.

It is part of the human program to denigrate and discourage any goals but those that benefit us.

Our most important goal is getting our soul from here to Heaven. As we work harder to achieve that, we become aware of obstacles erected by those who profit from keeping us focused on their goals. They have blocked souls from seeking salvation in any number of ways.

An example: For one hundred years, it has been announced that "We are running out of oil!" Now, it appears that oil, found as far as 7 miles down, is a naturally occurring product of the heat from the decaying thorium and uranium in the earth's core. Its heat produces oil and natural gas as an athlete produces sweat.

Rather than admit this obvious truth, those in the oil business call what they bring up from the ground "fossil fuels". They have successfully convinced generations to believe that their buildings are heated and their vehicles propelled by a shrinking supply of decaying plant and animal material.

To this end, marketing departments have helped establish the reality of "ancient earth". This ties in with governments who want their "educators" to teach their people to focus on them, rather than a God powerful enough to have written and downloaded The Creation Program.

Over the past years, this unholy marketing consortium has convinced billions of people that if there is a God, He is so slow that He can't be powerful enough to be taken seriously.  Catholic Fundamentalism understands that.

In response, it puts forth the idea that "God, The Loving Programmer, can program energies and particles; compile them into systems and beings; and download The Creation Program with each of us in it.  If we are fortunate, we may be led to think of Him as being so powerful that we should not only believe, but also, obey.

More than wishing for a Happy New Year, we, The Loving Programmer's beloved human programs, may choose to wish for a joyful forever.  Understanding that The Loving Programmer has the power to write and download The Creation Program helps us get there.

Catholic Fundamentalism Updates Pascal's Wager.

Blaise Pascal invented Probability Theory.  Then, he used it to decide which religion should be chosen.  He picked The Roman Catholic Church.  Boiled down, he said, "If the potential gain is great enough, a risky bet is a smart bet."  The ultimate wager we make is for our soul's salvation.

"If you could win all the money in the world with a two dollar bet, you should make that bet.  Similarly, if you could obtain eternal and total joy by spending an hour a week at Mass and obeying The Church's rules, you are a fool not to do so."

Many are discouraged from making that bet because that been led to believe that God is not real enough to worry about, and if He is, He'll automatically grant us salvation because "I am basically a good person".

In every generation, most of us are led from that belief by any number of worldly agencies that exist to focus souls on the entities God and men have programmed rather than on The Loving Programmer of all that is good.

Before we make the short step of realizing that we human programs have been written and downloaded within The Creation Program, we may consider the fact that "Human programs can write and download movies so realistically that they appear to be 'real'.  We must realize that it is also a fact God, The Loving Programmer, could have programmed and downloaded energies and particles and compiled them into the reality that we know.  That's not a big step to take."

Vanity keeps us from taking steps to get closer to God and His Church.  No matter how many degrees of separation there are between us and Him, we derive a great deal of self-satisfaction from whatever position we hold.  To become a Catholic is to admit that we need help in moving from admiring our self and obeying its drives to loving and obeying The Loving Programmer.

Those who make that admission, and put it in light of Scripture and history, have begun to move beyond vanity into obedience.  Smart bet!

Where Do Mistakes Originate?

We've all thought, said, and done some remarkably stupid and insensitive things.  Afterwards, there's a tendency to ask ourselves, "How could I have been so wrong?"

When we examine the hurtful things we've thought, said, and done, a process that's encouraged by Confession, or by confessing, there's usually a recognizable pattern:  we wanted to show that we are better and more important than other people.

In fact, much of what we think, say, and do is designed to impress others.  We want to be more than we are.

"I" usually precedes every error we make.  So, when we catch ourselves saying "I", or acting as if our "I" is the most important thing in the world, we may be able to keep ourselves from doing something we may regret for a very long time.

The Iowa Caucuses

When elite-Republican Romney only gained a fourth of the vote, it's obvious that three fourths of Republicans don't like him.  He spent a lot of money, and only beat Santorum, who had embarrassingly little cash, by 8 votes.  Today, Romney was endorsed by John McCain, a move indistinguishable from the kiss of death. He will continue to be supported by the left wing of the party.  They've been responsible for runs by Rockefeller, Bush I, Dole, and McCain, and simply can't recognize how widely and deeply hated they, and their candidates, are.

Ron Paul is the only "Jackson Man" running in either party.  He is true to the Constitutional ideals that motivated Andrew Jackson, who shut down the National Bank.  That was the forerunner to the Federal Reserve that Ron Paul wants to close.  The important thing about voting for Paul is sending a message about how important it is to shrink government.  That message will be ignored.

Santorum has picked up most of the Cain supporters.  He will probably get most of the five or six percent of Republicans who'd been supporting Bachmann until she withdrew, today.  Santorum's virtual win will turn off some of the spigots from which donations flowed to the other candidates.  "What's the point of throwing money down a rat hole?" some donors are already asking Romney callers.

Outside the top three, Gingrich remains  the most viable.  He is carrying too much baggage.  His worst mistake was to help the Government Party pretend that Global Warming was a real problem.  He should have identified it as the fraud it was, rather than sitting on the sofa with Nancy Pelosi.  We don't need any more gullible, popularity-loving Presidents.  Can't afford them.

Perry is the most experienced administrator running.  He may make up ground in South Carolina, but has an uphill fight.  He was a Democrat for a long time, and lacks the glibness that's now equated with winning elections.  When he withdraws, he can send his supporters, a largely reasonable group, to either Gingrich or Santorum.  That decision will help one and hurt the other.

Political Correctness Strikes Again

For many years, historians believed that syphilis had been brought to Europe by Columbus's crew.  They had picked it up from Indians on their trips to the Caribbean.  Interestingly, many of Lewis and Clark's men got venereal disease from Indians in the Pacific Northwest.  Many are led to conclude that syphilis was rampant among the New World natives.

This politically incorrect truth has been largely buried.  Recently, some brave academics released the results of a study of European corpses.  They could find no skeletal evidence of syphilis in Europe before the 1490s.

Within weeks, more politically correct "scholars" responded, not with facts, but emotion.  They decided that "the evidence was not sufficient."  The reputations of Native Americans must not be damaged by anything as comparatively as historical facts.

So, the debate continues.  It does not always lead to truth.  But, it does show where people stand on the "truth vs. political correctness scale".

This is an important issue.  Rousseau, it will be remembered, used to rant about the glories of "living in a state of nature".  By attacking the French, and all European civilization, generations have become hostile to the very forces that have provided them the world's highest standards of living.

The result of embracing primitive ways of life now seems to be continents full of syphilitics.

The fact that syphilis spreads from people "living in a state of nature" and corrupts those nations whose morals had not allowed such an epidemic is a direct assault on the theoretical goodness of living in a relatively value-free society.

That truth is utterly inimical to those who worship self gratification more than self preservation.

Ahhh, Consistency!

Many are drawn to The Church because of Her constant stand on important issues.  There has been no wavering on any meaningful doctrine.

The Church has consistently upheld beliefs contained in, and based on, The Apostle's Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
    born of the virgin Mary,
    suffered under Pontius Pilate,
    was crucified, dead, and buried;

He descended into hell.

The third day He arose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,
    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost;
    the holy catholic church;
    the communion of saints;
    the forgiveness of sins;
    the resurrection of the body;
    and the life everlasting.

Amen.

As we read through that, we see no changes since the earliest days of The Church.  The consistency found therein, from generation to generation to generation, is more than remarkable.  It is miraculous.

We have learned that, at Judgment, wheat will be separated from weeds, sheep from goats, and the saved from the unsaved.  If we memorize The Apostle's Creed, and use it to guide our lives, we increase our chances of living in joy, forever.  Eternal bliss is, ultimately, the most valued consistency of all.  Those who seek it earnestly are drawn to the closest thing to it on earth.

     The Roman Catholic Church.

Today's Reading.  John 2, 1-5:  Advice to All.

"On the third day there was a marriage at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; Jesus also was invited to the marriage, with his disciples. When the wine failed, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." And Jesus said to her, "O woman, what have you to do with me? My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."

The Second Person of The Trinity, the Creation Program, Himself, took human form and came among us.  Powerful as He was, He obeyed His Mother.  First, He argued with Her, saying "My hour has not yet come".  She ignored Him, the Ruler of the Universe, and, by directing her command to mere servants, prompted Him to begin His work.

As we go through life, we should remember and obey Her admonition to the servants:  "Do whatever He tells you."

Then, as now, He will listen to His Mother.  There is no better reason to ask Her to intercede with Him for us.

Which is More Worthy of Trust, Government or Organized Crime?

It was announced last week that several people had winning numbers in the Illinois Lottery.  The winners received their checks.  Naturally, they went to the bank to cash them.

     The checks bounced.

A few decades ago, lotteries were run by organized crime.  They called their lotteries "The Numbers".  A vast underground network in every municipality sold "numbers".  The winning number was drawn.   Every winner got paid in cash.

God's Thinking

is far more powerful than ours.  We, for instance, think of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  That's as clear a view as most of us can get with our abilities from our present perspective.

Just saying the phrase "Father, Son, and Holy Spirit" lets us know that we are programmed and downloaded with the ability of thinking sequentially.  We do not, barring some revelatory vision, see Him as the One and as The Three simultaneously.

Catholic Fundamentalism may help.  We can see, in our age, how The Programmer is The Program and how They need the action of The Holy Wireless Connector to write and download.

Education Bubbles are Bursting.

Most nations spend more on what they call "education" than needed.  Today, a huge educational structure exists in all modern nations.  We find disparate groups involved.  There are, of course, teachers and aides.  And, there are principals, assistant principals, superintendents, assistant superintendents.  Janitors, bus drivers, bus manufacturers, books, book publishers, gyms, coaches, playing fields, bands, instruments and their makers, are the tip of the Education Iceberg.

Once, the roads were filled with people carrying goods.  They were replaced by beasts of burden, followed by the more efficient wagons and the animals that pulled them.  Transportation then went to canals.  Then, railroad trains began moving people and goods more cheaply than ever before.

One wagon could carry as much as a hundred pedestrians.  One train could carry as much as a thousand wagons.  The number of people needed to actually do the moving was reduced.

Today, there are millions of teachers.  In every field, there are a dozen or so "super-teachers".  Computers can make the very best teachers available to every student far more cheaply than the millions of teachers now working so ineffectually in expensive brick and mortar buildings.

The Education Bubbles are bursting.  The sooner they burst, the less pain will be inflicted on those living in, and on, the collapsing bubbles within the larger bubble.

Back When the Jesuits Were More Fully Catholic,

they used their powerful minds and analytic skills to quantify things.  Around 1900, it was announced that "The difference between a mortal and a venial sin is twenty dollars."

If a person stole $20.01, the sin was mortal.  If $19.99 was stolen, the sin was venial.  Hair-splitters argued as to the fate of someone who stole exactly twenty dollars, a "double eagle" worth approximately a week's wages.

Today, that same twenty dollar gold piece is worth about $1,600.00.  If the original calculation was right, the difference between mortal and venial sin, adjusted for inflation, is $1,600.00.

Now, we all know that Jesuits are still Catholic, but they've stopped thinking so much about obedience and concentrate on making faith "relevant".  Still, providing a guideline as to the difference between mortal and venial sin at least keeps us thinking about the goodness and badness of what we may desire and do.

That sort of thinking brings our mind and soul closer to God.

Bribes

It was just announced that uranium mining near the Grand Canyon would be stopped.  This follows on the heels of announcements stalling a pipeline that would bring Canadian oil into the United States.

Uranium is the key fuel for the nuclear reactors that produce electricity for two or three cents per KWH.  Other providers of power, mostly coal and natural gas, produce power for six or eight cents per kilowatt hour.  They do not want more nuclear plants, so they employ environmentalists, today's "hired guns" to make it seem dangerous.

At the same time, wind and solar producers, whose electricity costs upwards of a dollar/KWH, are even more desperate to demonize nuclear power.  So, no uranium mining near the Grand Canyon.

The pipeline was stalled because it would threaten existing Mid-east, Venezuelan, Mexican, and American oil producers with lower prices and reduced profits.  Again, the environmental "hired guns" were brought in to blaze away while "contributions" are made to those who would rather have personal enrichment than cheaper power and more prosperous citizens.

So, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

The Most Bizarre Excuse for Spending in History:

From archeology.org/news/

"Archaeologists are interested in protecting the Apollo landing sites on the Moon from damage by future spacecraft. “I think it’s humanity’s heritage,” said Beth L. O’Leary of New Mexico State University."

Think about what's important in that notion of "humanity's heritage".  While it may, for an instant, seem to be a worthwhile project, think about it, again.

Then, pray that Beth L. O'Leary finds something far, far more fulfilling to do with her life than worry about marks in dust a quarter of a million miles away.  Is it really worth caring about those marks being disturbed by yet another rocket that may, or may not, take off in the next decade, if ever?

Only the minds of coddled children could think such things to be important.  But, that concern was "vital" enough to be reported in Archeology Today.  The amazing thing is that they were not too embarrassed to report it.

There is yet another step that the "truly concerned" will want to take:  As we can see, the surface of the moon is covered with pockmarks, the craters of countless meteors.  To truly "protect the Apollo landing sites on the Moon", there is only one thing to do.

We must build a huge, meteor-proof dome above the landing site.  Sure, it would costs hundreds of billions of dollars, maybe even a trillion or so.  But, that's small change compared to living our lives diminished by having those precious dust-marks obliterated.

Getting With The Program

It's hard to explain how much happier we are when things make sense.  Many of us have a hard time relating to God.  All the words we use in our faith come from the Iron Age.

The prophets wrote in the Iron Age, Jesus lived in the Iron Age, and so did all our ancestors up to the 1800s.  Many, like the Amish and Moslems, still live there.  It is comfortable, but not realistic.

When we try to take Scripture seriously, we use minds formed by vocabularies that are, essentially, Iron Age.  It's hard to relate to the God of the Iron Age with minds filled with thoughts based on electron flow and control.

Catholic Fundamentalism sets us free from that dichotomy.  Now, we verbalize God as The Loving Programmer, One Who can program and download energies and particles.  As we explore His ability to compile those programs into systems and beings, we move closer to Him.  We get rid of the separation imposed by words and thoughts from earlier ages and see that we can be One with Him.

When we use the Catholic Fundamentalism terms, The Loving Programmer, The Program, and The Holy Wireless Connector to think of the three persons of the Triune God, we're coming home in a whole, new way.

Catholic Fundamentalism "Updates" Help Us Understand Sin and Corruption

Our computers go down if viruses corrupt their files.   In Catholic Fundamentalism, the demonic forces of the underworld are pictured as "living viruses". These evil spirits infect us human programs with living viruses.  They consciously attempt to corrupt the huge files in our minds.

Scripture tells us that children are not to be sacrificed to false gods.  Today, we do not see children publicly sacrificed in open temples as in Babylon and Carthage.

Helpless children are, however, sacrificed to the same false idols in abortuaries all over the world.  They are also sacrificed, though more slowly, in the West's increasingly Godless public schools.

Such institutions keep children from learning as much as they could and growing to be as successful as they might have been if they'd been successfully taught better skills.

Tens of millions of children have been sacrificed to Viruses of Sloth.  Its most faithful supporters are utterly reliant on the high pay and short hours of whichever temple employs them in the sacrifice.

Always Close to the Edge

In 539 B.C., Cyrus captured Babylon.  The city had years of food stored for a siege, a powerful army, and all believed they could hold out until Cyrus ran out of money.

Big mistake.  While the huge city was celebrating a festival, Cyrus diverted the course of the Euphrates River.  When the water was shallow enough, his men waded into Babylon.  The city was so huge that large areas of it had fallen, even as the festivities were going on in the temples.

Unexpected attacks, from within or without, can destroy seemingly impregnable nations.  When just one bastille fell, France fell into rule by revolutionaries.  William the Conqueror took England with amazing speed.  Cortez, and a few hundred soldiers, invaded and destroyed the vast Aztec Empire.  A few years later, Pizarro, with his handful of soldiers, destroyed the Inca's huge Peru-centered Empire in little more than the twinkling of an eye.

We are warned how quickly things can disappear by Jesus's words in Matthew 24:38:  "For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark;"

So, what are we to do?  The answer, again from Matthew in 6;19-21:  "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Every prayer and every help provided a neighbor makes a deposit in a bank that simply can't break or be broken into.  Such deposits may be assumed to generate the highest possible interest rates in the coin of the only realm that will last.

Today, an Odd Inconsistency Surfaced in The Women's Movement

An international group of women recently convened.  The purpose of their gathering was to emphasize how important it was that "women be given a fair shake".

Attendees emotionally and frequently reiterated the thought that, though they comprise over half the population, they are "woefully underrepresented" in board rooms, executive positions, and elected offics.   First, nodding, then, applause followed these announcements.

Not one of the women present thought it important to mention that millions of very young women are killed by abortionists every year.  They were, and are, being done away with simply because they were found to be female.

We must be careful with our concerns.  It is damnably embarrassing to be caught publicly focusing on self rather than neighbors.  A "double damnation" may occur at Judgment, when such souls are asked, "You said you were 'for women'.  Yet, you invariably failed to protest their wholesale slaughter.   In the final analysis, shouldn't you recognize that you must be judged for having chosen to be a greedy, self-centered liar?"

We Get the Political System For Which We Ask.

Today's Old Testament reading tells us all we need to know about why things have gotten so bad in the formerly Christian and Catholic countries.

1 Samuel 8:4-7, 10-22

"All the elders of Israel came in a body to Samuel at Ramah
and said to him, "Now that you are old,
and your sons do not follow your example,
appoint a king over us, as other nations have, to judge us."

Samuel was displeased when they asked for a king to judge them.
He prayed to the LORD, however, who said in answer:
"Grant the people's every request.
It is not you they reject, they are rejecting me as their king."

God recognized that human vanity, as it had in The Garden, took precedence over belief and obedience.  He understood that He was being rejected.  So, He gave us kings, and endless wars.  After kings ruled most of Christendom for eighteen centuries, the same sort of bitter rabble-rousers who'd asked Samuel to ask God for a King began to pray for various "Republics" and "Democracies".  Not all those people were asking God for help.  Some were so desperately anxious for the power they could gain by rejecting the kings God had given them that they asked the virus and its minions for help.

God had Samuel make very clear what would happen.  People would lose freedom, family, and property.

"Samuel delivered the message of the LORD in full
to those who were asking him for a king.
He told them:
"The rights of the king who will rule you will be as follows:
He will take your sons and assign them to his chariots and horses,
and they will run before his chariot.
He will also appoint from among them his commanders of groups
of a thousand and of a hundred soldiers.
He will set them to do his plowing and his harvesting,
and to make his implements of war and the equipment of his chariots.
He will use your daughters as ointment makers, as cooks, and as bakers.
He will take the best of your fields, vineyards, and olive groves,
and give them to his officials.
He will tithe your crops and your vineyards,
and give the revenue to his eunuchs and his slaves.
He will take your male and female servants,
as well as your best oxen and your asses,
and use them to do his work.
He will tithe your flocks and you yourselves will become his slaves.
When this takes place,
you will complain against the king whom you have chosen,
but on that day the LORD will not answer you.
"

They gave up what they had, and got the kings they requested.  They also ended up with the slavery that always accompanies political systems as they devolve into manic tax-and-spend structures.

In the late 1700s, bitter, disaffected people were crying out for "justice".  They worked as hard to get rid of their emperors, empresses, kings, queens, czars, and czarinas as their ancestors had labored to replace God's judges with human kings.  They failed to heed what had happened to them 2,800 years previously when they lost the advantage in Rule by Judge.  That had made a superior society because it encouraged all men to seek justice, in their own actions and in the actions of others.

As before, the desire to replace kings with democracy was granted, for much the same reason, vanity.  They forgot they were making an even bigger mistake than they'd previously made at Ramah.

"The people, however, refused to listen to Samuel's warning and said,
"Not so! There must be a king (
now, an elected official) over us.
We too must be like other nations,
with a king (
elected official) to rule us and to lead us in warfare
and fight our battles."
When Samuel had listened to all the people had to say,
he repeated it to the LORD, who then said to him,
"Grant their request and appoint a king to rule them."

Just as the Israelites rejected God for the Kings they felt they "must" have, later they rejected Kings for democracy or pretences to it.  In our time, many are rejecting democracy, seeking a Castro-like rule that they think will provide personal benefit to those advocating it.

We realize that the unholy marriage of Communists and Moslems will reduce humanity to a world-wide prison camp, much like North Korea.  It seems unavoidable.  We may pray for deliverance, despite knowing that Scripture promises "that on that day, the Lord will not answer you."

Still, we may ask that The Loving Programmer be more concerned with mercy than with justice and deliver us from evil governments that began with what our ancestors so vociferously demanded.

The Iron Age is Over.  Its Truths Survive.

After Adam and Eve were evicted from The Garden, angels taught them how to use the programmed entities around them to feed, clothe, and house themselves.

Over time, their descendants learned to work with stone, copper, bronze, and iron.

The Iron Age lasted a long time.  During that period, the 3,900 years between Abraham and Edison, most of our religious thoughts had accumulated in the wisdom of The Roman Catholic Church.

The thoughts that produced that Structure are still valid, we only need to change the words to fit the electron-based technology of our own Age.  One of our most important jobs is to maintain the truth of God's work in our new age.  So, we transpose our words onto the processes recorded in Iron Age words.

One of the first transpositions is to replace the verb "creation" with "programming".  When "creation" is used as a noun, we replace it with "The Program".

After beginning this process, we can't help but see that we humans, ourselves, are "free will programs".  "That means," we may say in astonishment as we contemplate the complexity of the countless programs that comprise The Creation Program, "The Loving Programmer went to all that trouble to give us free will simply so we could each freely choose to be sheep or goats?"

The Republican Primary

With the upcoming South Carolina primary, voters are crystallizing.  Romney seems to have about a quarter of the Republican votes, mostly from the elite, establishment Republicans.  They've been a force since they lost the National Bank when Jackson closed it over their opposition.

Ron Paul has that quarter of the Republican Party who are the remnants of "The Jackson Men" in American politics.

The remaining half of the votes are divided between Santorum, Perry, and Huntsman.  That party split guarantees Romney's nomination.

Interestingly, none of the "little three" is focusing on high levels of spending and taxing.  Each is trying to gain the allegiance of the various, single-issue subsets of the Party, pro 2nd Amendment, pro-life, vouchers, etc.  If one of them had focused on tax reduction from day one of his campaign, there would be three main candidates, and we'd all be better served.

Instead, the current mantra is "Jobs".  That, repeated over and over and over, misses the point.  There cannot be more jobs without lower taxes and less government spending.  The point is as obvious as it is overlooked, indicating that the Worldwide Bureaucracy is a tax-dependent force they know is so powerful as to be joined, rather than beaten.

The Underpinning of Society:

There are two kinds of commodities.  Some commodities take turns being "the thing we're running out of".   Others, the bases of more profitable businesses, are things that "we're always running out of".

Shortages in nickel, gold, iron and other metals are cyclical.  When prices get high, more money is available for more mines.  Invariably, cheaper sources magically appear.  Inefficient mines are closed.  The desire to do so is what caused the original "shortage".

Oil, on the other hand, is perennially "about to disappear".

When these imaginary problems are magnified, people from the center of the bell curve begin to worry.  That, to our fearless leaders, is what they're supposed to do.  That worry can be turned into "deep concerns" that translate into political action.

Then, money begins to be taken from citizens, worried or not, and the problem gets worse.  Worry and tax expenditures increase proportionately, so working solutions to problems are steadfastly ignored.

Now, an entire generation is fearful of everything. Since we've been taxed to death, or had our money devalued (same thing), there's not much we can do about anything.

Fear, mostly of Imaginary Problems, is at the economic base of our society.  As Chesterton explained, "The man who does not believe in God will believe in anything."

When Bubbles Collide:  Optometrists vs. Ophthalmologists

Pennsylvania's optometrists "want to do more".  Rather than simply prescribing glasses and contact lenses, a process that's already very automated, they want to do some laser work on patients' eyes.  They describe it as burning away "humps and lumps" around the eye.

"Wait just a minute!", the ophthalmologists have replied.  "That's our job!  We, after all, have medical degrees!   We can be trusted!"

Optometrists answer:  "Now, things are so simple that we no longer need people with medical degrees to do a lot of laser operations.  We can do a lot of jobs more inexpensively, and should be allowed to do so."

Lobbyists from both the Optometrists and Ophthalmologists are meeting with key legislators.  Together, "a compromise will be worked out."  That way, both of the smaller bubbles within the larger Medical Bubble will be protected.  Even more importantly, the "Legislature Bubble will be blown larger by contributions from both groups.

No one from any group, Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, or Legislature is making an obvious suggestion:  "Why not let people decide whom they'd like to take care of their problem?"

Our entire system is made of such bubbles.  Our Legislative Bubble is there to protect the system of bubbles.  So, all of us pay more than necessary for almost everything we want.  The difference between our system and outright slavery grows narrower every day.

P.S.  Another war of "battling bubbles" is taking place within the larger Medical Bubble.  Dentists are working to prohibit "Dental Therapists" and "Advanced Dental Therapists" from doing basic dentistry.  As always, the established Dental Bubble professes to be "worried about public health".  If they were really worried about public health, they'd do everything possible to make dental costs lower so that more patients would be treated.  Instead, "worries about public health" mask the desire to maintain and increase dentists' personal incomes.

The Two Biggest Bubbles are in Continual Collision.

In every age and place, the two biggest bubbles are Church and State.  Today, New York City's Mayor Bloomburg, a staunch supporter of The State Bubble, announced that those in the Church Bubbles should not be allowed to hold meetings in property owned by the State Bubble in his jurisdiction.  He would rather that empty buildings be left unused than allow them to be used by the Church Bubbles.

That's typical of that ilk.  Those in the State Bubble always work diligently to shrink or destroy the many Church Bubbles.  Those in the Church Bubble are increasingly discouraged from having their own schools, hospitals, and businesses.  The opposition to such institutions is as overt as the State Bubble can get away with being.

At the end of the day, each will be judged for our belief in, and obedience to, God.  Those who try to keep citizens from any higher belief than the goals of the state are headed for an especially rough time that lasts, literally, forever.

Big Announcement!

Concerned denizens of the smaller Environmental Bubble that exists within the larger State Bubble have just announced that "Methane and soot are bigger problems than carbon dioxide!"

After decades of filling young and old minds full of twaddle about "the greenhouse effect", something impossible to achieve without an actual greenhouse-type of structure, their credibility has waned.  Now, it appears they need a new Imaginary Problem to keep their bubble from collapsing.

Before The Loving Programmer downloaded us within the Creation Program, He made sure to provide enough material for Imaginary Problems.  Soot and methane serve that purpose well.  We will hear more and more about "Soot and methane are two of the most threatening problems humanity has ever faced.  Studies should be made, regulations written, and regulators must be hired.  If not, we will all die."

Today's Alternative Reading is Very Important to Catholic Fundamentalism:  How Camels Actually Can Go Through the Eyes of Needles.

Matthew 19:23-24 contains this passage:  "Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Amen, I say to you, it will be hard for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.  Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."

Catholic Fundamentalism began when a young man, a Protestant Fundamentalist, was struggling with that passage.  "Surely, if the Fundamentalist approach to Scripture is right, an actual camel can go through the eye of an actual needle."

He found no assistance in that exploring that idea.  "The gate refers to 'the needle's eye', a gate in Jerusalem's city wall that was so narrow camels had to be unloaded to get through it."  He was also told, repeatedly, that "The passage is allegorical."

The young man was paralyzed.  "I have just quit my tenured teaching job to start a business in order to become more prosperous.  I have to get going because I have to support my family.  Now, I find out that if I get rich, my soul can't get into Heaven unless a camel can go through a needle's eye."

After wrestling with this conundrum, he sat quietly.  He realized that a camel could go through the eye of a needle that was a block long.  He also understood that a camel could be incinerated, its ashes diluted, and over time could be pumped through a tiny hypodermic needle through the eye of a sewing needle."

"That won't do.", he felt another thought thinking.  "The big needle is no longer a real needle and the incinerated camel couldn't walk."

Another thought entered his mind:  "What you do is take an egg from an ovulating camel.  You fertilize it with a donation from a male camel.  When the fertilized egg is in the process of dividing, you put it in a drop of amniotic fluid under a microscope.  A small, sterilized needle can be passed through the droplet.  You will see that the fertilized, growing egg passes through the needle's eye as easily as a ping-pong ball through a basketball hoop.

"Then, you implant the fertilized egg in the womb of the mother camel.  When that young camel is born, it will be a camel that has gone through the eye of a needle."

And that, dear friends, was the beginning of Catholic Fundamentalism.

It Helps us Understand Things Better if we Think in Terms of Bubbles

The Catholic Fundamentalism interpretation of human activities as "bubbles" helps us put our endeavors in what, at first glimpse, seems to be a depressing point of view.  None of us enjoy picturing our work as an impermanent bubble within a larger bubble.

Reality is important.  Viewing human activities and organizations as bubbles helps us see things from a more impartial perspective.  Every group is, when seen as a bubble, seen more clearly.

It's easy to call the activities of others "bubbles", but harder for us to think of ourselves and our own efforts as being equally transient.

We do not have a whole picture of time.  We tend to focus on ourselves, our families, and our activities.  We also are quick to see threats to our own bubbles from those within other bubbles.

Property owners are unceasingly attacked by those in the Education Bubble who need higher property taxes.  The sick and infirm are under pressure from those in the Medical Bubble who want more money for medical treatment.

Many bubbles don't last longer than popular fads.  The "animal-pulled wagon bubble" lasted for thousands of years.  Like a family, that sort of bubble is a long, "hot-dog" shaped bubble.  It is filled with the tiny bubbles that represent individuals within it.

Each of us is an individual bubble within a "family bubble" that stretches back to Adam and Eve.  Some bubbles are bigger than others.  Some are shinier.  Many have burst, over the past thousands of years.  Family Bubbles join with other family bubbles, and the appearance of the bubbles within tends to change over time.

When Bubbles Break,

the collapse is not immediate.  Most of us have never actually seen a bubble break.  If we are to understand the bubbles around us, we should watch at least one bubble as it bursts.

This video shows a bubble collapsing in slow motion.  To Catholic Fundamentalists, this is as important as any video you will ever see:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM9nvNOFqKU

When the projectile hits, the bubble does not immediately collapse.  Instead, it falls apart as the projectile goes through it.  We can imagine families of super short-lived microbes living on the left side of the bubble and realize they have no idea of the coming collapse.  Interestingly, the two small bubbles attached to the bigger bubble are spared.  They are like souls that have been uncorrupted by the bubble to which they are attached.

If we extend the time frame of the bubble popping from a micro-second to, say, a generation, we can compare the bubble to a business.  Consider the Pony Express as a bubble.

The projectile hitting that bubble was was Samuel Morse's invention of the telegraph.  One could have, when the first telegraph wires were strung, begun to "short" the Pony Express.

Still, for many years, people made money carrying messages by horse and train, even as wires spread out from urban centers.

When we look at that video, we understand that our own bubble may be, and probably is, collapsing.  If we are in the area first hit by the projectile (a bubble-popping idea), we are the first to be affected.  On the other hand, we may find profit remaining in the outlying areas.

The biggest bubble of all is The Creation Program.

Big Book Bubble Bursting

Schools spend eight billion dollars a year on textbooks.  They go on doing so, despite the fact that they aren't helping.  Spending $14,000 per student per year isn't getting the job done;  Americans students barely rank in the top 20 countries in ability.

The recently deceased Steve Jobs had thoughts on the subject:  "[Jobs] believed it was an $8 billion a year industry ripe for digital destruction."

Now, others are agreeing.  Providing books, virtually for free, could save taxpayers billions of dollars.  Textbooks are replaced when new funding fads, like global freezing/warming, need justifications for money.  Now, fad-meisters can react more swiftly than ever.

Smaller Imaginary Problems can now be brought quickly into students' minds.  So, we'll have "more brainwashing, faster".

     Technology is a two-edged sword.

Big Danger to Certain Elected Officials:  Final Judgment

There are a surprising number of elected officials who are Irish, Italian, Polish, Hungarian, Slovakian, and other groups of Catholics by nationality.  Many are the children and grandchildren of immigrants who scrimped and saved to provide them with Catholic educations in Catholic Schools.

Now that they're in office, many are doing nothing to provide all parents with the opportunity to send their children to Catholic schools.  They are, in four words, "afraid of the union".

We can imagine Heaven.  There is the Throne, and around it circles of elders, angels, and saints.  In those circles are the souls of the hundreds of thousands of Catholic priests, nuns, and brothers who devoted their lives to Catholic Schools.  When a politician who owes his position to the education received in those schools, and who did nothing real to support their funding, dies, his soul stands before the Throne.

We may picture those priests, nuns, and brothers in the jury box.  They will not necessarily be charitable when giving their opinion on someone who took advantage of their sacrifice and did not do anything meaningful to continue the reason for it.

Today's Reading is From Mark:

Gospel Mk 3:20-21

"Jesus came with His disciples into the house.
Again the crowd gathered,
making it impossible for them even to eat.
When His relatives heard of this they set out to seize Him,
for they said, 'He is out of His mind.'"

The spiritual heirs of His relatives say the same thing about devout Catholics.   "They are out of their minds." is a common description of those who follow Him.  The more thoroughly a person believes and obeys, the more "out of his mind" they are said to be.

It's an interesting phrase.  If one is not "in his mind", then, one must be out of it.  Some are "out of their mind" because of sin.  They are driven to destruction by desires they won't resist.  They leave their minds, and sink into the depths below rational thought, overwhelmed by a search for feeling.

Others leave their minds by focusing their thoughts, words, and deeds on He Who programmed and downloaded their souls, minds, and bodies within The Creation Program.  They have moved upwards from their connections with the world.

We, too, should move "out of our minds" toward He Who made them.

"She was Running Her Mouth."

Recently, a man in an American prison confessed to his cell mate that he had killed his wife.  The fellow occupant of the cell told authorities what he'd heard.  Prosecutors asked him to wear a wire so they'd have the evidence they needed to convict the chatty prisoner.  Several conversations with the accused murderer were recorded.

Nearly every sentence repeated the reason he killed her: "She was running her mouth."  There were variants, like "She wouldn't stop running her mouth.", but the discrepancies only made the motivating factor clearer.  He loved his faults so much more than his wife that he couldn't stand having her criticize him for having them.

In Moslem countries, men who suffer from a woman "who is running her mouth" are given immediate authority to "take care of the problem".  Sometimes, they throw acid on the woman.  Other times, they beat her.  By saying "I divorce you." three times, the woman can be expelled from home, family, and resources, simply for committing the unpardonable sin of "running her mouth."  Sometimes, a Moslem wife is actually beheaded for "running her mouth".

Men who are sick of listening to women who "run their mouths" are natural candidates for conversion to Mohammedanism.  Male superiority is a cornerstone of that faith, as it is of the cultures who incorporate it.

A great way for Moslems to increase conversions from such men would be to have a "fatwa" issued.  A religious decree that allowed men to punish, abandon without financial burden, or kill wives who "run their mouths" would be embraced by most such abusers.  It would logically, of course, extend beyond wives to daughters, sisters, mothers, nieces, and neighbors.

The number of Moslems would increase remarkably on issuance of such a decree.  While the moral caliber of such converts would not be high, they would certainly "fit in" with little adjustment.

One View of the Culture War's Opposing Forces:

There is a group of people who follow a principle similar to that of Bastiat:  "Treat all economic questions from the viewpoint of the consumer, for the interests of the consumer are the interests of the human race."   In other words, if a person has a less expensive way of doing, making, or providing something, consumers should have access to it.  The lower costs thus generated will make all more prosperous.

Another group believes that existing sources of supply should not be interrupted, so that "economic stability" can be maintained.

Hoarding

A popular TV show has been recording the mess that hoarders make of their lives and property.  Hoarding has shown us the vast collections of junk that the hoarders believe to be so valuable.

When we look at our own accumulation of possessions, we may see the same tendencies, reduced to socially acceptable levels.

An identifiable type of hoarder accumulates pets.  Some have lots of cats.  Some have a pack of dogs.  Some have both, dozens of them.  Some have lots of horses.

It may be that those who gather large numbers of animals do so because they are looking for approval.  The feelings of animals who wag their tails, purr, and nuzzle in their happiness at being fed can be misconstrued as love for their feeder.

It is the closest thing to love that such people have.
