How long can deficit spending last? There is a formula. If -$(Deficit spending) is less than PEI (Production Efficiency Increase), it can go on, forever. Here’s how it works:

Let’s say that four people working a 100 acre field with horse-drawn equipment are able to produce 100 bushels an acre. Those 10,000 bushels are worth $5/bushel, or fifty thousand dollars. It costs the four farmers $3.00 for seed, fertilizer, labor, and equipment. So, the four farmers split $20,000.00.

Then, the first mechanized equipment becomes available. Within a generation, one farmer is farming 1000 acres. He is, with his tractors, planters, cultivators, and reapers, reducing his costs. Rather than 40 farmers, there is one farmer. There are not 80 horses to pull the tiny plows, but one tractor and one plow. Costs have plummeted. It now costs $1.00 to produce a bushel.

The government is faced with 39 unemployed farmers for every person still working in the fields. So, it prints money (food stamps, heating assistance, welfare checks) to keep them alive. As long as it costs less to provide that than the money saved, the process can continue for a long time.

If similar cost reductions take place in the production of all goods and services, deficit spending can reach levels that would have been thought impossible.

The process will last until too many people are able to attain the political power to get government jobs (where there is never efficiency and cost reduction) and the system collapses.

Before that happens, money is ruthlessly squeezed from providers of goods and services, all of whom have become wealthy in the process of cutting costs. That distracts them from further efficiencies. The government does not shrink proportionately, and the nation collapses.

Every time.

How long can deficit spending last? As long as government does not grow faster than cost reductions in goods and services. Faith and freedom are needed.

In Catholic nations, with an appreciation of truth and a hatred of gluttony, the process can last a thousand years. And, it did in Europe, from about 500 AD to 1500 AD.

Bossy people find what passes for happiness when they can order others around. As a result, governments end up being run by bossy people. Bossy people are readily corruptible.

Bossy people think there are two kinds of people outside themselves: those below and those above.

It is the goal of those in government to be among those above, having larger numbers doing their bidding. They take two things from those below, rights and assets.

Assets are taken by taxing income, property, and activities. As vanity forces more people into governments, more must be taken.

After becoming corrupted, bossy people find that taxes may be levied on inefficient processes. An ancient example of an ongoing process: Rome owned Egypt. Huge ships brought grain from Egypt to be distributed among many of Rome’s citizens. Without it, there would be rioting. It is logical to think that the Roman government would simply turn Egypt into a huge, state-run farm that would provide grain at the lowest possible cost.

Instead, Egyptian farms were allowed to be privately owned. Their owners paid bribes to Senators to keep on owning their huge, productive farms. The higher costs were passed on to Rome”s citizens. They became poorer, but the Senators prospered. That process begins with liking to boss and ends with loving to steal.

In our nation, a large nuclear reactor is the most efficient producer of power. For less than two cents/kilowatt hour, electricity can be produced. Hydroelectric dams are about as efficient.

Our government has not built a nuclear reactor for decades. Hydroelectric dams are being torn down.

Egyptian food producers once paid bribes to Roman Senators who burdened their countrymen with excessive food costs. Now, those who use windmills, foreign oil, and solar panels to produce more expensive electricity pay bribes to American Congresspeople to burden us, their countrymen, with higher electricity costs.

Some things never change. Most people in Rome didn’t understand. Most Americans understand, either.

Catholic Fundamentalism merely mentions this as a warning. Those who use political position to bear false witness for personal gain lose their immortal souls to endless pain.

One of Scripture’s hardest passages is Today’s Reading. In Mt 5: 43-48:

Jesus said to his disciples:
“You have heard that it was said,
You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your heavenly Father,
for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,
and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?
Do not the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brothers only,
what is unusual about that?
Do not the pagans do the same?
So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

. . . . .

This is HARD! Our enemies want to enslave and kill us. Our enemies turn our children into drug addicts while they’re in school and put them in jail for taking the same drugs when they leave school. Our enemies kill our unborn children. Our enemies replace freedom with stricter control and regulation. Our enemies drive us into poverty. Our enemies are invading Christian nations, taking over institutions, and persecuting Christians. Our enemies destroy jobs. Our enemies are more interested in Imaginary Problems than in helping their neighbors. Our enemies make medical care expensive and difficult to obtain. Our enemies destroy our neighborhoods. Our enemies destroy morality, decency, chastity, wisdom, restraint, and honor.

Our enemies are the lying, murdering, thieving scum of the earth. Loving our enemies begins by understanding how much they hate us. And, Jesus has said: “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”

Loving our enemies begins by understanding how much they hate us.

First, we have to realize how desperately they are driven to destroy us. We have to understand that they literally want us and our children to be their slaves while we can work. Then, they want us dead. Their souls are filled with hate. Loving our enemies begins by understanding how much they hate us.

Why were we given this very difficult, unnaturally hard direction to follow? So we can rise above earthly concerns. By loving our enemies, we make obedience to Jesus more important than our material possessions and earthly relationships.

It was hard to obey: “If you do not eat My Body and drink My Blood, you do not have life in you.” It’s harder to “Love your enemy.” He’s a tough Boss.

Until the 1920s and 30s, Mainline Protestant groups agreed with the Roman Catholic Church. All taught that birth control and abortion were wrong.

In the “Roaring Twenties”, Protestants began to abandon that position. By the 1950s and 60s, a new generation of Americans had, along with the schisms, increasingly accepted birth control and abortion.

In the fifties and sixties, the he connection between schism, sin, and death grew clearer. In the early ’70s, abortion was legalized.

For a few years, the Pro-Life movement made some progress in stopping abortion, but it continued, largely unabated. The Catholic Church did what it could, but many of Her other enemies had been weakening the Church’s political power in American cities.

Through WWII, the anti-socialist Catholic Church dominated big cities. Large, prosperous parishes had their own school systems. The Church operated hospitals and social services. Some wanted to replace Catholic schools with public schools staffed with highly paid, unionized teachers. Similarly, competitors for medical dollars wanted to get rid of Catholic hospitals. Catholic social services provided unwanted competition for the state’s social workers.

Her enemies used “Progress!” to attack the urban Catholics. Huge expressways began shattering parishes while large numbers of minorities were moved into Public Housing in urban areas. Soon, white Catholics had to relocate to suburbs for safe living. Usurious bankers provided mortgages. Every hand was raised against The Church and Her people.

She was attacked so viciously by enemies on every front that it was impossible to defeat the abortionists. What made it worse? Pro-life people from every schism began competing organizations with different leadership, priorities, and funding. The Pro-life movement was amateurish, uncoordinated, and easily stopped at every turn.

The schismatic nature of the pro-life movement made it impossible tor Pro-life people to coalesce around competing candidates and policies. The unified culture of death made progress in every election cycle. Now, we must recognize an unhappy truth: it is the Christian schisms that allowed abortion to begin. It is the Christian schisms that allow abortion to continue.

Since everything else has failed, we can see that the only way to stop the murder of innocents is for all Pro-life people to become Catholics. Today’s reading included these passages from 2 Cor 6:1-10:

“Brothers and sisters:
As your fellow workers, we appeal to you
not to receive the grace of God in vain.
For he says:In an acceptable time I heard you,
and on the day of salvation I helped you.

Behold, now is a very acceptable time;
behold, now is the day of salvation.”

To fight effectively for life, we must rejoin our Mother Church. And, we must have a sense of urgency about doing so. “Behold, now is a very acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” If we do not, we may find there is an alternative reading to “now is the day of salvation” by realizing that “salvation” has an opposite.

Cafeteria Christians pick and choose the Scriptures they believe. Most schismatics love parts of this week's Sunday Reading: 2 Gal 2:16, 19-21

"Brothers and sisters, We who know that a person is not justified by works of the law
but through faith in Jesus Christ,
even we have believed in Christ Jesus
that we may be justified by faith in Christ
and not by works of the law,
because by works of the law no one will be justified.
For through the law I died to the law,
that I might live for God.
I have been crucified with Christ;
yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me;
insofar as I now live in the flesh,
I live by faith in the Son of God
who has loved me and given himself up for me.
I do not nullify the grace of God;
for if justification comes through the law,
then Christ died for nothing.

(Schismatics find their beliefs justified by this reading. It is mother's milk to them.
They get to repeat their great love for Jesus, their boundless belief in Him, and go on
and on about how important Jesus is to "me, personally".

Catholics ask: "If you 'live by faith in the Son of God', why do you ignore what Jesus says."

Schismatic: "I don't ignore what Jesus says."

Catholic: "Jesus said to the first Pope, "Thou art Peter, and on this rock, I build My Church." If you 'lived by faith in the Son of God', wouldn't you be in His Church?"

Schismatic: I am in His Church.

Catholic: You are in one of over 30,000 schisms. Do you believe Jesus was telling the truth when He said: "If you do not eat My Body and drink My Blood, you do not have life in you."?

Schismatic: "I live by faith in the Son of God."

Catholic: Let me ask again: "Do you believe Jesus was telling the truth when He said: "If you do not eat My Body and drink My Blood, you do not have life in you."?

This conversation can go on and on and on. As it progresses, the schismatic is increasingly unable to deal effectively with "If you do not eat My Body and drink My Blood, you do not have life in you."

Soon, the schismatic will begin quoting almost random passages. You will notice that they do not "live by faith in the Son of God." They live in faith of a selective belief in a selective number of passages that ignore the need for The Sacraments.

Why are they so selective? Why can't they see that their selectivity keeps every schismatic from greater truths?

This Sunday's Gospel Reading, includes Luke, 8:2 "Accompanying him were the Twelve and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, including Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,"

It is clear that Mary, called Magdalene had not followed Jesus while she had seven demons twisting her thoughts. Once those demons were gone, she was able to follow Jesus all the way to His death and Resurrection.

When the schismatics get their demons out, they can follow Jesus. They can receive The Sacraments. They can take Communion, His Body and Blood, in the only place on earth it can be found. They can have life in them.

Catholic Fundamentalism rejoices! Yesterday, we saw The Church’s daily reading that included Mt. 5:19. It referred to “The Least Commandments” that would be obeyed by those who would be “great in Heaven”. We learned to think of “The Least Commandments” as those by which Jesus let us know about “Thou art Peter, and on this rock, I build My Church.” and “If you do not eat My Body and drink My Blood you do not have life in you.”

Yesterday’s Reading confirmed that those who do not obey these “least commandments” end up being “least in The Kingdom of Heaven”.

How to obey “The Least Commandments”? Receive the Sacraments. “The Least Commandments are the words of Jesus that tell us to receive the Seven Sacraments of Baptism, Confession, Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick, and Holy Orders. Those who avoid any of them in their fulness will be “least in the Kingdom of Heaven” according to the passages that accompany Mt. 5:19.

Today’s Reading reinforces that, and lets us know that those who do not see and understand how to obey these “least Commandments”, to receive The Sacraments in His Church, have a veil over them:

2 Cor 3:15—4:1, 3-6

Brothers and sisters:
To this day, whenever Moses is read,
a veil lies over the hearts of the children of Israel,
but whenever a person turns to the Lord the veil is removed.
Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is,
there is freedom.
All of us, gazing with unveiled face on the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory,
as from the Lord who is the Spirit.

. . . . .

(We, who have been moved by God’s grace to greater faith,

eating His Body and drinking His blood and having “life in us” have had the veil lifted. So, we, unlike the schismatics of every kind, have His Spirit and the freedom which accompanies it. How to obey “The Least Commandments”? Receive the Sacraments.)

. . . . .Therefore, since we have this ministry through the mercy shown us,
we are not discouraged.
And even though our Gospel is veiled,
it is veiled for those who are perishing,
in whose case the god of this age
has blinded the minds of the unbelievers,
so that they may not see the light of the Gospel
of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

. . . . .

(Wow! This passage sums up the lot of the poor schismatics, “perishing” because they can’t see through the veil of vanity and sin. They may not “see the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. As long-time readers know, Catholic Fundamentalism looks at God as The Loving Programmer. Jesus Christ is the Fullness of The Creation Program. He took human form and came among us programmed entities to be painfully erased by them and gloriously restored by The Loving Programmer, God the Father.)
For we do not preach ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord,
and ourselves as your slaves for the sake of Jesus.
For God who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,‘
has shone in our hearts to bring to light
the knowledge of the glory of God
on the face of Jesus Christ.

. . . . .

(That, in our poor, weak way, is Catholic Fundamentalism’s purpose. We have an admittedly dim, though new, view of God as The Loving Programmer. We understand that He is able to write and download with actual particles and energies. We see that all He has been telling His beloved Human programs (us!) since the beginning is completely and utterly true. When we see a reading that reinforces Catholic Fundamentalism and The New Evangelizing, we are filled with joy! We are not perishing, because we see! The Sacraments remove the separating veil, just as that in The Temple was torn.)

Responsorial Psalm PS 85:9ab and 10, 11-12, 13-14

(Even the Psalms encourage obedience to “The Least Commandments”!)

R. (see 10b) The glory of the Lord will dwell in our land.
I will hear what God proclaims;
the LORD–for he proclaims peace to his people.
Near indeed is his salvation to those who fear him,
glory dwelling in our land. (We must obey “The Least Commandments, taking Communion and receiving The Sacraments in The Roman Catholic Church.)
R. The glory of the Lord will dwell in our land.
Kindness and truth shall meet;
justice and peace shall kiss.
Truth shall spring out of the earth,
and justice shall look down from heaven.
R. The glory of the Lord will dwell in our land.
The LORD himself will give his benefits;
our land shall yield its increase.
Justice shall walk before him,
and salvation, along the way of his steps.
R. The glory of the Lord will dwell in our land.

Gospel Mt 5:20-26

Jesus said to his disciples:
“I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that
of the scribes and Pharisees,
you will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.“You have heard that it was said to your ancestors,
You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment.
But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother
will be liable to judgment,
and whoever says to his brother,
Raqa, will be answerable to the Sanhedrin,
and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ will be liable to fiery Gehenna.
Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar,
and there recall that your brother
has anything against you,
leave your gift there at the altar,
go first and be reconciled with your brother,
and then come and offer your gift.
Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court with him.
Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge,
and the judge will hand you over to the guard,
and you will be thrown into prison.
Amen, I say to you,
you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.”

(This passage, too, reinforces Catholic Fundamentalism’s ideas about “The Least Commandments” and those who disobey them. They avoid His Church and Sacraments. Therefore, they are not able to download His Body and Blood or receive forgiveness. If those who disobey “The Least Commandments by avoiding The Catholic Sacraments do not make peace with Him while they are on earth, they will spend eternity in Hell. How to obey “The Least Commandments”? Receive the Sacraments. )

Today’s Gospel reading from Mt. 5:17-19 applies to the “lesser commandments”. Those who obey the “least of the commandments” are the greatest in Heaven:

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.
I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away,
not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter
will pass from the law,
until all things have taken place.
Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments
and teaches others to do so
will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven.
But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments
will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”

. . . . .

What are the “least of the commandments”? Catholic Fundamentalism respectfully suggests they are the implied instructions He provides to the most faithful. For instance, Jesus told the first Pope, “Thou art Peter, and on this rock, I build My Church.” That may be seen as a “lesser Commandment”. He is clearly instructing us that He began One Church on one man. That is a “lesser commandment” that we obey by being practicing Catholics.

. . . . . .

Another “lesser commandment”: “If you do not eat My Body and drink My Blood, you do not have life in you.”

. . . . . .

The only place to receive His Body and Blood is within The Church He founded on Peter. Many people attend, and encourage others to attend, schisms that have separated themselves from The Church of which Peter was the first Pope. There is no Body and Blood in schismatic groups.

. . . . . .

Those who fully obey and teach the “lesser commandments” are rewarded in Heaven. Is there any other conclusion than that schismatics are not?

Many believe that some of America’s earliest Protestant settlers were the Pilgrims, in 1620. French Protestants, known as Huguenots, settled on the South-east coast of the United States long before that. They provide a perfectly fascinating moral lesson as to what happens when self-will overwhelms obedience. From an early history book:

“In 1562, French Protestants came to the fine harbor of Port Royal and here decided to make the settlement. A small fort was built and called Fort Caroline in honor of King Charles of France. Twenty-six men were left to hold possession of the fort, and Ribault, expecting soon to return, set sail for France. When he arrived there he found civil war raging, and he could not return then to carry aid to the little fort.

Meanwhile things went badly indeed at Fort Caroline. The Indians had been friendly, but the soldiers had quarreled among themselves. When provisions became scarce and there was no sign of help, they mutinied and killed their captain. They said they would return home at all hazards, for they could not longer bear life in the wilderness.”

After the murderous mutineers killed their commanding officer, they made themselves a little boat. They planned to return to France by sailing it across the Atlantic. Some in the mutinous crew had the ability to properly anticipate the amount of necessary provisions.

The calculations were as simple as: “We will need one and a half pounds of food for each crew member for 45 days.” We may assume that such obvious calculations were made. We may also assume that mutineers would not stop reacting with extreme hostility toward anyone wanting to apply intelligent analysis to a problem.

“Nob0dy can tell us what to do.”, those who urged the accumulations of provisions before departure were told.

Too soon, the boatload of mutineers sailed for France.

A week or so after putting out to sea, they ran out of food. They were starving. Their tiny boat tossed on the endless ocean. One of the mutineers volunteered to let his shipmates kill and eat him so that they might survive. They did exactly that.

A day or two later, the surviving Huguenots were rescued by an English ship. The world soon heard the whole, sordid story. French Huguenots in America: mutiny, murder, and cannibalism. History was given a perfect example of how the results of spiritual disobedience were visited upon those who preferred self-will to obedience.

Obedient Spanish Catholics didn’t resort to mutiny when they didn’t get their own way. French Huguenots, trying to find a place for their disobedient schism, did. Obedient Catholics did not end up as mutinous cannibals. Some observers rightly understood:

Spanish Catholics settled the new world as good Catholics. French Huguenots settled in schism. They ended up as mutinous cannibals. Catholics didn’t.

French Huguenots in America: mutiny, murder, and cannibalism.

Few think much about: The origins of the word “protestant”. It has in many minds, a positive meaning. It is associated with those who care enough to “protest”.

Since we usually think of protests as being against injustice, oppression, and tyranny, the word “protestant” may be taken, on a sub-conscious level, to have positive connotations.

As the wave of European schisms began flaking off from The Church in the 1500s, the early marketing gurus didn’t know what to call themselves. They had a classic marketing problem.

Those in favor of schism could not totally separate themselves from The Roman Catholic Church. That would alienate supporters who wanted to go to Heaven. Those who could be led to leave The Church had to think they were being provided with the same, or better, chances of going to Heaven if they supported the schism of their time and place.

Those behind the schismatic movement were genuinely puzzled. “What should we call ourselves?” Various alternatives were considered. “We cannot call ourselves ‘Lutheran’ because we are working in nations outside of Luther’s Germany. We cannot call our movement ‘Calvinist’ because some are already identifying themselves as ‘Presbyterian’. We need a name for the entirety of our schismatic movement to encompass every single schism. What all-inclusive name will work best? Our future depends on it.”

The word “schismatic” was suggested. Though perfectly descriptive, it was not thought to have any attractiveness that overcame its negative connotations. “Independents” was thought to be threatening to the various state groups. They didn’t want too much “independence”.

Those who were pushing the overthrow of Catholic structures to provide land, buildings, movable property, and opportunities for themselves knew they needed a better name.

“What will we call ourselves?”, high-level schismatics asked. “Reformers”? There’s really not much to “reform” about The Church, with their vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience? “Purists”? That won’t work. Without requiring our own hired clergy to take those same vows, we can’t very well call ourselves “Purists”. We can’t do that. The people who want jobs in our schism aren’t about to take such vows. Not having those vows encourages our kind of people to want jobs in our clergy.”

Some suggested “Levelers”. That was rejected. “It’s too threatening to rich people. They might be driven back to The Roman Catholic Church if their wealth is threatened.”

“I’ve got it!”, said one of the smarter schismatics. “Let’s tell the fools that we are ‘Protestants’! They will believe it.”

“What, exactly, are we protesting?”, asked the dimmer schismatics.

“What are we protesting? Anything we want! That’s the brilliance of it! No matter what our opponents’ position is, we always have an excuse to be ‘protesting’. Think of the job security!

“Wow! No matter what position we face, we can ‘protest’. People will have to pay us so we don’t start protesting against them! And, we will provide generations of bitter people with a reason for being that exalts the very worst parts of their wretched natures! We can generate cash flows for centuries! Each national schism could have its own name. Europe’s spiritual unity can be destroyed under the umbrella of Protestantism.”

No one asked what funding sources would benefit by that.

The brilliance of calling themselves “Protestants” sank in. It was recognized as a perfect triumph of branding. The name fit their personalities and purposes so well that none of the schismatics could think of a single reason to protest.

Ex. 34:11-161

(The Prophet Ezekiel is a perfect example of: An Old Testament Prophet foretells The Catholic Church.)

“Thus says the Lord GOD:
I myself will look after and tend my sheep. (Jesus, God Himself, will come to earth.)
As a shepherd tends his flock
when he finds himself among his scattered sheep,
so will I tend my sheep.
I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered
when it was cloudy and dark. (Before His great light came into the world, the people who would be saved were

scattered. The Tribes of Israel had been scattered from Ireland to India. They were usually minorities, rarely remembering their common heritage.)
I will lead them out from among the peoples
and gather them from the foreign lands;
I will bring them back to their own country
and pasture them upon the mountains of Israel
in the land’s ravines and all its inhabited places. (I, Jesus Christ, will find all those who will be saved, or lead them to find Me, and I will bring them back to their own country, which will be The Church that I began when saying to its first Pope: “Thou art Peter, and on this rock, I build My Church.)
In good pastures will I pasture them,
and on the mountain heights of Israel
shall be their grazing ground.
There they shall lie down on good grazing ground,
and in rich pastures shall they be pastured
on the mountains of Israel. (Those He has led to Catholicism are the highest people, elevated like mountains, the closest to God among the tribes. We may think of the saved as Abel, the lost, as Cain.)
I myself will pasture my sheep;
I myself will give them rest, says the Lord GOD. (I will give them My Body to eat and My Blood to drink so that they may have life in them.)
The lost I will seek out,
the strayed I will bring back,
the injured I will bind up,
the sick I will heal,
but the sleek and the strong I will destroy,
shepherding them rightly.” (We, who humbly seek God and His forgiveness, will be accepted into eternal joy in Heaven. Those around us who are too full of themselves to do so, He will send away, as was Cain.)
