Ireland. In Trouble. Again.

Saturday, February 26, 2011 · Posted In: Daily Column

All of us have tendencies to classify by nationalities and ethnic origin. We’re endlessly told by hectoring nannies we aren’t supposed to do that, but we can’t help it. If we are going to do so, we should try to be accurate.

There are actually two kinds of Irishmen. There are those who are faithful, obedient Catholics and those who have lapsed. The same thing can, and should, be said of any nationality. As we do so, we realize that it is the faithful Catholics of every nation who populate the Kingdom of God. Others may apply, but have a harder path to travel.

Today, after a long, vicious assault, Ireland has fewer believing Catholics than ever. As a result, the country has gotten itself into such an awful economic dilemma that the Irish are emigrating. The nation can no longer sustain itself.

Their economic problems were made worse because Irish were convinced to vote to join the European Unionists. That was not an intelligent move, but the silly sons of the Auld Sod voted to join the European Union so show that they were “enlightened”. Right. Soon after, the Euro’s heartless bureaucrats descended upon the Irish people with demands that excessive loans, the result of greedy, lapsed Irish Catholics, unrestrained by Holy Mother Church, be repaid. The remaining faithful among the Irish were hung on the hook to pay for all that the lapsed and greedy among them had stolen.

Now, their economy is destroyed. To live, they have to emigrate. We, who were so disappointed that good Catholics had been so easily subverted as to subjugate themselves to a greater tyranny than the English ever inflicted upon them said, “Serves ‘em roight.”

They may, at least, be grateful that God showed them how badly they’d erred so quickly.
