Catholics, and those able to be, learn that something miraculous happened in Today’s Catholic Reading from John 1-2, 11-18.
Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb, so she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, ‘They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put Him.”
Now, another woman, also named Mary “stayed outside the tomb weeping… she turned around, and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?”
“When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?”
“She thought it was the gardener, and said to Him, ‘Sir, if you carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him.”
“Jesus said to her: ‘Mary’.” and she realized it was Jesus!
Now, she had knew Jesus had been scourged, crowned with thorns, and was bloody from that and being crucified. But, she did not recognize Him! How do Catholics explain that?
It may be that the love of Jesus is all that people could see!
It may be that His “Resurrection” could have provided complete healing for His many, many wounds.
It may be that “descending into Hell” provided a cure for the sins inflicted upon Him.
Or, we may have another answer! It is worthwhile for every Catholic to try and solve “That Catholic Mystery”!
