Women in polygamous marriages tend to have low self-esteem, less satisfaction, and more mental health problems than women in monogamous marriages. Studies find higher levels of depression, hostility and psychological problems in polygamous marriages. “First Wife Syndrome”, so common as to have that name, show that first wives have even lower self-esteem, more anxiety, more paranoia, and more psychotic tendencies than second and third wives.
Naturally, polygamous nations deny all this. What they really deny is that women’s happiness is important.
What are polygamy’s effects on IQ? Everyone in a polygamous home lives in fear of the father. “I divorce you.” repeated three times has them out on the street with no marital assets. That leaves their children in a hostile home, with no defenses against the other children and their mothers.
That’s why children and their mothers in polygamous families fawn over dad. His mistakes are ignored and he is endlessly glorified. There is no balance. Wives, sons, and daughters smart enough to threaten their father are sent away.
