Where did Peter and His First Catholic Bishops get their authority?
From The Word of Jesus!
He began by putting Peter in charge!
“And I say unto you thou art Peter and on this rock I build My Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I give you the keys to The Kingdom of Heaven.”
Jesus Spoke His Only Church Into Being with That Word! Catholics know: “Every Word of Jesus is Truth.”

Acts 10: 40-43, “This man God raised on the third day and granted that He be visible, not to all the people, but to us, the witnesses chosen by God in advance, who ate and drank with him after He rose from the dead.
Only the eleven Disciples could see Jesus. Soon, another was chosen. Jesus also appeared to St. Paul! Jesus provided One Apostle for each of The Twelve Tribes. He provided One More for worthy people outside The Tribes!
~Then, what did Jesus do?~
“He commissioned us to preach to the people and testify that He is the one appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead. To Him all the prophets bear witness, that everyone who believes in Him will receive forgiveness of sins through His name.
“commission” is a very important word. It has two meanings:
noun: “a group of people officially charged with a particular function”. “a group” means one group.
verb: “give an order for, or authorize.”
The First Catholic Bishops were the only people “commissioned” and “authorized” by The Power of Jesus to “preach to the people”.
Catholics know this fact: Jesus did not reappear and give anyone else that “Commission”.

Jesus then spent 40 days between Pentecost and His Ascension with His First Catholic Bishops.
In those Forty Days, Jesus showed them how to organize The Catholic Faith. He told them how to provide “the keys to The Kingdom of Heaven” to future generations. He told them who was deserving of them.
His “keys” took actual form in The Seven Catholic Sacraments.
Jesus wanted The Church He Had Spoken Into Being to last until the End. So, He showed them how to choose and ordain Catholic priests, Bishops, and Successors to Peter.
For 2,000 years, Successors to Peter have led The Only Church Jesus Spoke Into Being with His Word.
