#8. “How are Willful Protestants different from Peter?”

. When did Simon start to obey Orders from Jesus? When did he stop?

St. Peter owned his own business. The local government had given him valuable “fishing rights” on The Sea of Galilee. He was a successful businessman with many possessions.

Simon, the businessman, met Jesus! It is a fascinating story in Luke 5: 1-11!

“While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the Word of God, He was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret. He saw two boats there alongside the lake; the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets.”

Question 1: “What did Jesus do next?”

Answer: “Getting into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, He asked him to put out a short distance from the shore. Then He sat down and taught the crowds from the boat.”

Question 2: “What does this tell us about Peter?”

Answer: “Peter obeyed his first Order from Jesus!”

Question 3: “What was the next Order that Jesus gave to Simon?”

Answer: “After he had finished speaking, He said to Simon, ‘Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.”

Question 3: “Simon’s long experience told him there were no fish there! What did Simon do?”

Answer: “Simon said in reply, ‘Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at Your command I will lower the nets.’”

Question 4. “Did Simon obey that Order from Jesus even though he was tired from working all night and taking care of his nets?”

Answer: “Yes.”

Question 5: “Was Simon rewarded for obeying that Order from Jesus?”

Answer: “Yes! “. . they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing. They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come to help them. They came and filled both boats so that the boats were in danger of sinking.” That may have been over a ton of valuable fish!

Question 6: “Did Simon realize that he had just seen Jesus Christ perform a Miracle?”

Answer: “Yes! ‘When Simon Peter realized that, he fell at the knees of Jesus and said, ‘Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.’

Question 7: “What was the next Order from Jesus that Simon obeyed?”

Answer: “Jesus said to Simon, ‘Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.’ When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed Him.”

Question 8: “Simon left his successful enterprise and valuable possessions. How long did Simon obey The Order of Jesus to not be “afraid”?

Answer: “Until Jesus made Simon into Peter, the ‘rock’ of The Catholic Church. Peter is the only person in History to whom Jesus Christ gave This Order! “And I say unto you thou art Peter and on this rock I build My Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I give you the keys to The Kingdom of Heaven.”
