Those who operate in secular enterprises quickly come to a conclusion: “I am not allowed to actually fix anything that’s wrong at higher levels.”
All are aware, for instance, that Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme. Since it’s backed up by the government’s ability to confiscate, an ability that’s supported by armed force, no one is allowed to fix it. A few, like the Amish, are able to escape. Most of us are stuck, forced to support a corrupt system that provides no real return.
We all know that more drilling for the endless amounts of oil produced deep in the earth by the incredible heat of its core will make us prosperous. Yet, none of us are allowed to “fix” the problem of high energy costs.
Phonics actually helps more children learn to read more quickly. Few elementary schools solve the problems of illiteracy by using phonics. Parents who complain about their children’s inability to read are not allowed to have the schools “fix” the problem. Instead, hordes of dues-paying “Reading Specialists” are put on the payrolls.
The destruction of a generation of young people by drugs could be solved by removing the profit margins of illegal production and distribution. If addicts could simply go to the drugstore to buy the few pennies of chemicals they need, robbery, insurance, and incarceration costs would plummet. There would be no “pushers” cajoling and coercing young people to “Just try this!” No one is allowed to “fix” the drug problem by making them legal.
Every identifiable problem, no matter how imaginary, has government employees who are rewarded with ush salaries, benefits, and pensions for pretending to solve the problems. They don’t want to lose those jobs, so the problems are never solved. We are faced with a lifetime of hearing “More studies are necessary.” before any improvement to any problem can be considered.
Every problem has a solution, and all costs can be reduced. We aren’t allowed to do either. We are allowed to play quietly in our tiny sandboxes.
That’s not a bad thing. If we become “professional fixers” of problems, we run a great risk of turning into them. A decade or so, Pennsylvania’s “Christian Coalition” tried to “fix” the State Government. Most of them quickly used their status to get government jobs for themselves. The only thing “fixed” was the low level of their previous salaries.
“Fixers” usually grow farther from truth. Then, they begin bear false witness. The Loving Programmer turns His face from such as they.
Rather than complain about our inability to “fix” problems, it’s better to be overwhelmed with thanksgiving that we, unlike so many “fixers”, are still in God’s sight. We should love our neighbors and do good to those who hurt us. And, be thankful that we have a sandbox in which to play.
