Not a Good Idea to let Spiritual Gravity Pull us Down

All but the most saintly of us are stuck, in varying degrees, in one or more different kinds of quicksand. There are “spiritual quicksands”, into which we are pulled by “spiritual gravity”. There are seven kinds of spiritual quicksands. Those varieties of temptation are there to pull us more deeply into the mire. If we struggle, sinking is accelerated. If we rest passively, the sinking continues, though more slowly. The general direction is down.

There seems no escape. Depression follows this realization. We often try to cure our depression with distractions. Each distraction palls. Depression follows. Then, more distractions. No matter how often they’ve gone through the depression/distraction cycle, most believe that they will be cured if they find a new distraction. The subsequent depressions get worse, usually hastening the embrace of new distractions.

We usually fail to recognize that the different Spiritual Gravities were programmed and downloaded by The Loving Programmer. He provided the Vast Creation Program so that we’d have lots of distractions, each of which draws us into eventual boredom.

When we understand that, we can do as John Adams suggested more than two hundred years ago when considering Biblical miracles: understand that an authority with the power to enact legislation has the power to waive it.

Applying Adams’s political theory to God, we see that the most important reason for Spiritual Gravities is to understand that they come from Him and exist primarily to give us a reason to ask to be exempted from its inexorable commands.

As we ask Him for help, we understand that each of us is a beloved human program with free will who’s been downloaded within the vaster Creation Program. He has downloaded that Program, with us in it, simply to separate those who want to rise toward Him from those who choose to give in to the far lesser force of spiritual gravity and let themselves be pulled into new distractions.
