Catholic Fundamentalism provides simple reasons to be Catholic.

For 25 years, Catholic Fundamentalism has explored how we may better understand God’s power by combining the timeless teachings of the Roman Catholic Church with the sincere faith and Scriptural focus found in many Protestant traditions. One way to begin this reflection is by seeing God as the Divine Author of all Creation.

God: Creator of All Things

Catholic Fundamentalism offers a creative way to understand what St. Thomas Aquinas called the Unmoved Mover. God, the eternal Creator, made both spiritual and material realities. He ordered the universe with divine wisdom, bringing harmony from chaos. Each of us is a unique person, created with a soul, reason, and free will—living within the vast beauty of His creation.

The Ordered Universe Reflects God’s Design

The universe we observe—from stars and galaxies to fossils and natural laws—was formed by God for our good. Its complexity and wonder reflect His intelligence. From the Church’s perspective, faith and science are not in conflict (Catechism §159). Rather, scientific discovery can lead us to awe and deeper reverence for the Creator.

Why did God permit such intricacy in nature? Because He gives every generation the opportunity to freely seek and find Him. As St. Paul teaches, “Ever since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes… have been clearly perceived in what He has made” (Romans 1:20).

Sacred Scripture: God’s Revelation

The Bible is the inspired Word of God, written by human authors under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It contains the Old and New Testaments, which together reveal God’s plan for salvation. While the language may come from ancient times, its truth is eternal. Scripture tells us who God is, what He has done for us, and how we are called to live.

Truth vs. Modern Myths

As we grow closer to God, we begin to see through modern ideologies that reject His authority. Some theories, often promoted by secular voices, attempt to remove God from His own creation. Catholic Fundamentalism addresses these challenges head-on in a segment called The Lie Committee, which examines how modern narratives often conflict with divine truth. These reflections aim to strengthen readers against cultural confusion and draw them toward Christ.

The Soul: Our Most Precious Gift

Catholic teaching affirms that each human being has an immortal soul, created directly by God (Catechism §366). Our purpose is to know, love, and serve Him in this life and be happy with Him forever in the next. The choices we make daily either draw us closer to God or lead us away. Understanding this helps us focus on what truly matters.

Reason, Faith, and Curiosity

A strong worldview must offer better answers to life’s biggest questions. That’s what Catholic Fundamentalism seeks to do. In the Books section, you’ll find New Road to Rome, a free resource exploring the harmony between reason and Catholic belief.

Rather than focusing on speculative claims, readers are encouraged to discover how the Catholic Church answers timeless questions with clarity and grace. From the nature of truth to the meaning of words, the Church’s intellectual tradition is deep and enriching.

Columns and Daily Reflection

The Columns section offers frequent posts that connect Catholic belief to everyday life and current events. These reflections draw from Scripture, Church teaching, and personal experience to help Catholics see the world through a faithful lens.

A Renewed Perspective

Catholic Fundamentalism is a modern effort to rediscover the beauty and truth of the Catholic faith. Like Pascal’s Wager, which encourages belief in God as the most reasonable choice, this approach invites us to explore faith with both heart and intellect. The Catechism, Sacred Scripture, and the early Church Fathers offer a solid foundation for our journey.

Key Truth to Remember

Your guardian angel can help remind you of this truth: God created both spiritual and physical realities, and He formed us with reason and free will so we may freely choose to love Him. This is the heart of our dignity and the starting point of our salvation.

Rejecting God’s power or the truths revealed in Scripture often stems from pride or misunderstanding. But Christ calls us to humility, trust, and conversion.

About the Author

The founder of Catholic Fundamentalism was raised Presbyterian but became deeply interested in Catholic thought while studying at St. Bede’s Monastery in Peru, Illinois. There, he discovered the works of G.K. Chesterton, whose poem Lepanto helped him understand the eternal struggle between good and evil. Guided by the Benedictine monks, he also studied St. Thomas Aquinas, which opened the door to the Church’s intellectual richness.

After serving in the U.S. military—including time in Vietnam—he earned a degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh and worked in urban schools as a children’s librarian.

In later years, he pursued work as an inventor and entrepreneur. Yet the greatest discovery of his life was returning to the Catholic Church, where he found the fullness of truth. He holds 155 patents but considers his faith to be his greatest treasure.
