Will God be more lenient with us?

Today, in many ways, things actually are worse than ever.  We are all more exposed to sin.  Value-free education makes more people helpless when it comes to resisting sin.

Pornography, for instance, used to be expensive.  Today, endless amounts of it are available, virtually free, through the internet.  So, are those who give into the demons of Lust more likely to be forgiven?  They may know they are sinning, but realize that, in earlier times, they would never have come in contact with so much filth.  They wonder, “Will God be more lenient with us?”

Similarly, more children than ever are exposed to “value-free” education that’s been spread throughout the public schools by life-hating leftists.  Two or generations of young people have been making more bad moral decisions than ever.  If they ask, “Will God be more lenient with us because we live in more sinful times?”, what do we answer?

In earlier generations, most Americans had no contact with illegal drugs.  Today, drug pushers in every school are so desperate for money they push drugs, even on grade school students.   Many students are unable to resist the often threatening urgings of drug dealers to “Try this!”  As soon as they become addicted, they start to steal whatever they can.  A few even kill.  Drug addicts may ask,  “We’ve been surrounded by a sea of narcotics and pushers, more than in any age before.  Will God be more lenient with us?  When we stand before Him at Judgment, will He grade on a curve?”

Though times may change, one answer remains:  “If we ask God to forgive us for having done wrong, He will forgive us.”  There is more certainty in the process if we avail ourselves of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
