Another one bites the dust.

Some of those who have what their vanity drives them to obtain need to publicly exchange their souls for material goods.  It happens on a daily basis.

It’s always the same.  A rich, famous, or powerful person publicly decries some teaching or practice of The Church, in the name of “enlightenment”.   Some complain about The Church’s position on chastity.  Others complain about Her condemnation of abortion.  Others disagree with Her position on birth control.

No matter what the issue, when their bargain with Death is consummated, they must publicly disagree with The Church on some position.   Without a sincere Confession to follow, their souls are lost.  After a few years of declining pleasure, they enter into unrelenting, eternal pain.

When we become aware that someone has publicly scandalized The Church to curry favor with earthly powers, and worse, we may say to ourselves, “Another one bites the dust.”  And for what?  Short-term gain.  It’s followed by long-term, really long-term, the longest term of all, pain.

Today:

“At an extraordinary summit in London, Mrs Gates announced that the charitable foundation she set up with her Microsoft founder husband Bill was donating $560m to family planning services.

The size of the donation is intended to emphasise the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s commitment to reducing unwanted pregnancies in poorer countries, which experts say lead to more than 100,000 women dying prematurely every year.

A life-long Catholic, Mrs Gates said she had grappled with her faith before deciding to speak out against the Vatican’s opposition to contraception.

“Of course I wrestled with this. As a Catholic I believe in this religion, there are amazing things about this religion, amazing moral teachings that I do believe in, but I also have to think about how we keep women alive,” she said in an interview in advance of the summit.”

This has all the hallmarks of everything that’s thought, said, and done when  another one bites the dust.  “I am a Catholic, but I know more than The Church.  I know more than the saints, angels, prophets, and The Church’s Founder, Jesus Christ, Second Person of The Trinity.  I know more than Mary, Joseph, and the apostles.  No need for a person like me to be obedient.”

Oddly enough, with all her concern “about how we keep women alive”, Ms. Gates was not on record as doing anything substantial to stop the sex-selective abortions by which millions of young women are killed every year simply because they are not men.

Amidst such hypocrisy, another one bites the dust.
