The anatomy of an alarmist lie.

Most of us know that alarmists make a living by forcing legislation that takes money from taxpayers and give it to them.  There are alarmists in every area of human endeavor.  Most of them concentrate in academia and government.

Since so many people in government are used to people telling people lies, new liars, while they may not be welcome due to their competing for money taken from taxpayers, are at least joining their own kind.

One of the alarmists best and oldest lies is “Coastal areas will be destroyed by rising sea levels!”   That’s a surprisingly popular lie.  If we want to provide the anatomy of a lie, that’s a good one to study.

First, let’s see how false it is by taking a look at the anatomy of an alarmist lie.  Here’s a picture many of us have seen:

Fresh groundwater and surface-water make up the bubble over Kentucky, which is about 252 miles in diameter. The sphere over Georgia reresents fresh-water lakes and rivers (about 34.9 miles in diameter).

When we see how big the earth is, and how little water there is, it seems insane to worry about “the earth’s coastal regions will be flooded”.

The blue drops show all the water there is.  There isn’t any more.  Picture that drop being spread out through all the ocean basins.  Picture part of the drop in the growing, miles-thick Antarctic icecap.  More of it is in frozen Arctic.  There may be enough to dampen a few coastal fringes.

Still, professional alarmists, exaggerators, and, unfortunately, outright liars, will ignore the evidence of their own eyes while encouraging and embracing any funding that promises to reduce the “deadly, destructive effects of global flooding”.

All who make a living by lies and exaggerations have but one commandment:  “Thou shalt not say that other alarmists are liars.”

So, lies grow and multiply.  Those who tell and spread them will never look at the anatomy of an alarmist lie.
