“Is every school district a little organized crime family?”

A lot of people wonder why it costs up to $20,000.00 a year to educate a child in many school districts.  Taxpayers are forced to pay $400,000.00 a year for the 20 students in many classrooms.

Why don’t school boards do something about this?  School board members are taught that they’re doing something good and useful by serving on a school board.  They are made to feel that the superintendent is a concerned, caring person who only wants the best.

Teachers and administrators are very convincing, nodding with eyes open very wide as they tell of all the good that is being done.  Why are these costs so high?  Their answers are c0nvincing.  “Too many parents don’t care”, “Too much television.”, “Facebook and twitter are very distracting.”, and “I just don’t know why things are getting worse, but I do know that they are.” make up the usual litanies that justify more and more and more spending.

Such perceptions cause some to think differently about public education and the school boards in charge.  They’re asking, “Is every  school board a little organized crime family?”

“What!”, those who hear say, sometimes in outrage.

“Let me explain why your taxes are so high.”, the suspicious person may say.  “Everyone knows that the costs are high, and that school boards won’t vote to cut spending.  Is each board member who votes for the Superintendent’s budget and agenda allowed to have one qualified friend or relative hired every year or so?  As a result of such bribes, if that’s what you want to call them, budgets are allowed to rise endlessly.  If this is why public education costs too much, it’s because the bribes are big!   Each of the favorites who are hired receive three to five million dollars in lifetime pay, benefits, and pensions.”

“Well,” the listener may say, “that’s awful!  It’s, a crime.”

“My point, exactly.  Is every school district a little organized crime family?  To the extent that they allow, encourage, and hide this sort of behavior, yes.”
