What drives people into madness?

When we catch ourselves thinking, saying, or doing something unkind and unloving, there is a demon at work.  An evil being has gotten into our mind and has corrupted, or is trying to corrupt, a tiny part of it.

When we catch it at work, an immediate prayer, “God, please get rid of this thought.  Drive this desire from me.” will set one of The Loving Programmer’s sub-programs in operation.  The request immediately goes to our Guardian Angel.  If the evil spirit is of equal or lesser power, he can drive it away.

If the corrupting demon has reinforcements, our Guardian Angel puts in requests for more help.  If we ask, we’ll be provided with all that we need to keep our mind and soul, our operating system, uncorrupted.  The operative word is “If.”

If we do not ask for reinforcements, the other side will be able to get more demons into our minds.  Those overwhelmed by demons become deranged.  The Bible tells us what drives people into madness. Mark, 5:8

“They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.  When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him.  This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain.  For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him.   Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him.   He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!” For Jesus had said to him, ‘Come out of this man, you impure spirit!’

Then Jesus asked him, ‘What is your name?’

‘My name is Legion,’ he replied, “for we are many.’ And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.”

Those requests were heartfelt.  The demons were far more comfortable in the man than they would be where they’d go if Jesus exorcised them.  He drove the demons out of the man in whom they were living.  Catholic Fundamentalism sees this reality reflected in our own computers.  We purge our corrupted files of error so that they will work properly.  Similarly, we, as human programs with free will, must get rid of our errors.  The Loving Programmer will do so.  “If we ask.”

The passage continues.  Mark 5:11-13:  “A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. The demons (who lived in the possessed man) begged Jesus, ‘Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.’ He gave them permission, and the evil spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank and were drowned.

As more demons enter into a mind, it’s harder for the corrupted person to do think, speak, and act correctly.  Our human operating system, once it is too corrupted, can only be cleansed of error by powerful spiritual forces.   Who can drive out such demons, today?  Fortunately, Jesus gave The Church His power to drive demons away by Exorcism.

As we try to find where our soul is in the scheme of things, we may consider that 2,000 demons are about all that any human mind can hold.  We may have a few thoughts and desires that can be overcome by prayer and Confession, tiny demons of the “imp” class, but few of us have minds which are that disrupted.

Someone like a mass murderer may have that many demons in their mind.  The state is unable to stop such people and cannot admit The Church has the power to do so.

As a result, modern nations are afflicted by those possessed by demons.  We can understand better the power that demons have as we pray and get rid of those within us.  We are helped by remembering a basic rule that demons obey:  “First, convince the human program that there are no demons.”
