We winnow. God winnows. Be very afraid.

Winnowing.  The grain is taken to the barn, and broken apart by a wheel.  Then, it is thrown up into the air.  The wind blows the chaff, the useless material around the grain, away from the wheat.  The wheat falls to the ground, to be put to good use.

The chaff is blown away.

We, made in the image of God, endlessly winnow.  Our lives are spent separating that which benefits us from that which does not.

Often, the process of winnowing is so confused that we may be reminded:  “Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.”

To help us winnow properly, we may seek appraisals.  “This box is full of silver plated bowls.  Over there, is a pile of sterling.  Get rid of the silver plate and keep the sterling.”

We make choices as to what we keep and throw away.  Some make a horrible mistake, and “winnow” God.  “I don’t need to attend Church any more.”

We winnow.  God winnows.  Be very afraid.

Those who reject God do not realize that we human winnowers are made in the image of He Who winnows  human souls.

Those who refuse to believe and obey God and His Church are separated from the chosen, blown away, like chaff.
