During WWII, the English government rationed food. They kept on rationing well into the 1950s. There was no shortage of food. The government just wanted more control of people’s lives. The lie? “We have to ration to help you.”
Those who make pain-relieving medications write and pass laws to keep people from killing pain on their own. Pain-killing medicine is legally available only through expensive, approved outlets. Those who can’t afford it are driven into black markets. They risk fines, confiscation of property, jail, and death in The War on Drugs. Their version of the lie, “We have to control drugs to help you.”
In recent decades, governments have made energy scarce. A wide variety of lies has convinced the more gullible among us that using energy causes the dreaded Global Warming. Now, coal-fired generators are being closed. Efficient nuclear reactors make electricity for less than 2 cents/kwh. They are being replaced with windmills that often make no power at all. Energy is becoming scarcer and more expensive. People are actually freezing to death in many countries. The lie reappears. “We have to control power to help you.”
A few decades ago, a person could to to a Wal-Mart and buy a $1.00 can of freon and the hose necessary to put the freon into their car’s air conditioning system.
Big freon manufacturers said: “Let’s make freon appear to be dangerous. Then, we can control the distribution and raise the prices.” The annually appearing “Ozone Hole” over Antarctica was the result of diminished sunlight in the Southern Hemisphere’s winter. Imaginative liars had media outlets repeat: “Freon from air conditioners is turning the Ozone Hole into a global threat. Sheep in Patagonia are going blind!” Huge chemical companies patented “safe” replacements for freon. Their lobbyists had legislators mandate its use.
Today, the freon that once cost a dollar to put in our car costs $25.00 and must be installed by a “Licensed Professional” for another twenty dollars. That version of the lie? “We have to control freon to help you.”
