Truth

Truthis still such an important commodity that those who deny it still pretend to tell it. That practice, in fact, is one of their intellectual weak points. When we hear a liar telling a lie, we may think to ourselves, or actually ask: “Why do you try to tell us that your lie is the truth? Why not just admit that it is a lie?”

This question is not designed to make them tell the truth, but to make them understand that they, themselves, recognize truth to be of more use to them than lies. Therefore, we may ask, “If truth is better, and by your insistence that your lies are truths, then why not devote yourself to truth directly and whole-heartedly?

If they were to do so, of course, they would become increasingly faithful and obedient Christians, and discover more fully the meaning in “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”
