Lots of people get depressed. It’s always because we’ve become separated from God and the purpose for which He’s made us. When we see people who are depressed, it’s instinctive to say, “Don’t worry. Be happy.”

There’s not a lot more that we can do except to pray for their well-being.

Depression is often the result of willfully ignoring God’s will for us. It also comes from the certain frustration of trying to change things that aren’t supposed to be changed, at least by us. The more we try to do the impossible, the more depressed we get. Frequent prayer keeps our own, individual program in line with The Loving Programmer, and is a great help to our spiritual, mental, and physical health.

Lots of people are depressed because they see that their country is declining and that “things are falling apart”. That’s all true, but, isn’t it always? One way to cure depression is to read history. The Bible, and other histories, recount instances of cities being captured and the entire populations slaughtered or sold into slavery. As armies got bigger, whole countries and continents were scourged by Moslems, Tamerlanes, Ghenghis Khans, Napoleons, etc.

The Indians of the Western Hemisphere, while better off now than in their original cannibalistic (I know, mentioning their cannibalism is not politically, but it is historically, correct.) cultures and societies, certainly wanted to go on as they were, killing, torturing, enslaving, and eating each other at every opportunity.

We don’t want to have our own nations and economies destroyed, but it does happen. It does little good to worry about it. Such things are in God’s hands, and His will is going to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Better to be happy about it, and pray for deliverance, in this life and the next.
