“Alas for you, scribes and hypocrites, . . “

“Alas for you, scribes and hypocrites, . . ” This applies to all of us. We each have unresolved sins within that keep us from God. Often, we ignore them, always to our detriment.

But, scribes and hypocrites abound in the vast Church of the False Alarms.

One of their loudest denominations has been complaining with increasing intensity about the imaginary dangers of global warming. Another group in the choir goes on and on about the imaginary dangers of second-hand smoke. Still another sings endlessly about the horrors of “trans-fat”.

Each day that they loudly pretend to be concerned about helping their neighbors, several thousand unborn babies are killed.

God notices.

Judgment awaits.

They, themselves, do not know what a mockery they have made of God’s gift of rational thought. They are blind, yet, they say they see. Reaching them is hard. Trying to get through to them puts us in a risky position. Often, those who try to cure become infected with the disease they try to alleviate.

Father Damien, in trying to help the lepers, contracted the disease and died from it. We must be very careful not to be infected with the same spiritual blindness we try to cure.
