Only a “simple-minded Catholic” could ask Question # 6!

Why are some people indignant when Catholics give time and money to Jesus and His Church?

Question 1: “What made ‘some’ people so ‘indignant’ in John 12:3 when: ‘. . . Mary (Magdalene) took a jar of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.’

Answer: “The ‘indignation’ of Judas and ‘some’ others is explained in Mark 14: 3-8! ‘And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head.’

Every ‘alabaster flask’ was carefully carved and hollowed out from a piece of flawless alabaster by a skilled craftsman. ‘Alabaster flasks’ were expensive! Judas knew what they cost! He was ‘indignant’ when Mary broke intentionally ‘broke’ one so one one else could use it!

Question 3: “That ‘alabaster flask’ would cost as much as a beer bottle carved, hollowed out, and polished by hand from a rare piece of stone! What made the ‘spikenard’ inside so valuable?”

Answer: “‘Spikenard’ has two main ingredients. ‘Nard’ is an amber-colored oil made from flowering plants found only in the Himalaya Mountains, near Nepal! It cost a lot to make and carry nard to Palestine.”

Question 4: “What else was in the ‘spikenard’?”

Answer: “Ambergris. That comes from rare lumps of indigestible matter thrown up from sperm whales. Even today, ambergris costs $10,000.00 a pound!”

Question 5: “Was Judas the only one who was ‘indignant’ about the wasted money?”

Answer: “Other self-righteous people were upset! ‘But there were some who were indignant among themselves, and said, ‘Why was this fragrant oil wasted? For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.’ And they criticized her sharply.’

Question 5: “What did Jesus specifically tell them about their criticism of Mary Magdalene?”

Answer: “‘But Jesus said, ‘Let her alone.(!) Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me. For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good; but Me you do not have always. She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial.’

Question 6: “Why does no Willful Protestant ever read that last line and ask: ‘Did Jesus Christ just say that Mary Magdalene was a Divinely-inspired ‘prophetess’?

Answer: “Only a simple-minded Catholic could ask that question!”

~

Question 7: “‘Some’ Willful Protestants criticize The Catholic Church for having beautiful art and buildings. Are they similar to Judas and others who criticized the expensive offering Mary Magdalene gave to Jesus?”

Answer: “Yes. Like Judas, ‘some’ are ‘indignant’ about offerings His most faithful followers make to Jesus and The Only Church He Spoke Into Being with His Holy Word: ‘And I say unto you thou art Peter and on this rock I build My Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I give you the keys to The Kingdom of Heaven.’

Question 8: “What makes ‘some’ people ‘indignant’ and ‘troublesome’?”

Answer: “‘Some’ people are as ‘indignant’ as Judas when Catholics give to Jesus and not to them.”
