A woman’s Bible-study group focused on The Book of Malachi. As they were studying Chapter three, they came across Verse three: “He Will Sit as a Refiner and Purifier of Silver. . .”.

The women wondered what this meant about The Nature of God.

One of the women volunteered:  “I will try to find out about how silver is refined.”   She called up a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. An interesting insight from a Women’s Bible Study Group was the result!

The silversmith let her watch as he held a piece of silver over the fire. He explained:  “It takes a lot of heat to refine silver.  When we refine silver, we need to hold it in the hottest part of the fire.  It takes a lot of heat to burn away all the impurities that are in the silver.”

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot.  She very intelligently compared what the silversmith was doing with how God sits as “a refiner and purifier of silver”

She asked if He had to watch the silver as it was being purified.  The silversmith explained that he had to watch it.  “If it stays too long in the heat, it will be destroyed.”

The woman asked the silversmith, “How do you know when the silver is fully refined?”

He replied:  “When the silver is pure, I can see my image reflected in it.”

The woman understood:  “When we feel the heat of the fire, God will keep watching us until He sees His Image in us.”
