Catholics don’t have to “Tithe ten percent!”

greedy

Catholics know better than to tithe 10%.  Those who say “Tithe ten percent!” are just plain greedy.   When we hear “Tithe ten percent!”, we hold onto our wallets!  Catholics don’t have to “Tithe ten percent!”

Why should we ignore “Tithe ten percent!”?  It’s a scam!  Here’s why:  In the past, the poor had no government funding.  There was no Social Security for the elderly.  There was no Social Security Disability for widows and orphans.  There was no heating assistance.  There was no help with rental income.  There was no Public Housing.  There was no medical assistance.

Back then, The Catholic Church provided accommodations for the poor.   Earlier Protestant denominations could reasonably request members to “Tithe ten percent!”.  There was no other way for Christians to help the poor.

Now, Government Agencies provide most of that care.  More people than ever get more than ever.

Catholics don’t have to “Tithe ten percent!”   Those who say “Tithe ten percent!” falsely compare needs of the past to our times.  “Why is Pastor Bob always going on and on about ‘Tithe ten percent!’?  Doesn’t he know about Welfare?”

Those who try to squeeze people by saying “Tithe ten percent!” are wrong.  Some are greedy.  As donors dwindle, they grow more desperate.

Who obeys demands to “Tithe ten percent!”?   Good, decent, trusting people are often the most easily fooled.   “If Pastor Bob says we should ‘Tithe ten percent!’, then I’m going to do what he says!”

The Catholic Church recognizes the historical and economic realities of modern times and nations.  No Catholic Church ever says “Tithe ten percent!”  The Catholic Church knows families need money for their own expenses.

How much should Catholics give?  Whatever they can!  Usually, we strive to donate a week’s pay every year.  That’s about 2%!

It pays to be Catholic!  Catholics snicker when we hear “Tithe ten percent!”
