Democracy, Dictatorship, and Magnus Carlsen.

Magnus Carlsen is a twenty year old chess player, possibly the best on earth. Recently, he played a game of chess with “the world” and won in 44 moves, according to a report from Dienekes’ Anthropology. There an allegorical comparison was made to democracy and dictatorship.

Clearly, the “dictator”, the one smart person, could make better decisions and “beat” the crowd, symbolizing “democracy” where those in the crowd simply could not think as well

If we know that one autocratic state, run by a genius, will be victorious, then God knows it. But, He has not been encouraging systems in the formerly Christian countries that will enable the sort of personality that’s represented in the allegory by the young chess genius, Magnus Carlsen, to take near-total power.

In short, to believe in God almost forces us to believe that God wants each of us in charge of as much of our lives as possible. He does not seem interested in having another Alexander, Genghis, Attila, Mao, etc. taking over large sections of less intelligent/ruthless people and making decisions for them.

When we see how many mistakes so many of us make in our own lives, we may say: “Maybe we do need someone smarter in charge.”

So far, it appears that we’re stuck with what we are.
