Focus Groups.

After last night’s debate between the candidates for President, there was a focus group. Suddenly, there was an obvious groundswell of favor for Senator Thompson.

Those against Thompson recited two shallow arguments they’d learned from national media. “Thompson waited too long to declare his candidacy.”, followed by “Thompson waited too long to ‘come alive’.”

When comparing him to McCain and Huckabee, the current front-runners, it was obvious that Thompson had made more progress than ever.

But, how were the people in the focus group selected? Who picked them? Some of the glib recitation of talking points in every post-debate focus group was more than would be expected from randomly selected voters.

It is amazing that anyone with any political knowledge could be for the other candidates. But, many of us are readily convinced to buy products that we don’t need, and that will hurt us, by skilled advertisers.
