The Book of Judges, 13:2-7, 24-25, tells us God’s enemies are symbolized by “Philistines”. They are descended from the “Sea Peoples” who attacked Egypt and other nations over a thousand years Before Christ. We see that Samson “shall be consecrated to God from the womb” where his growing mind and body would not be corrupted by his mother drinking “wine, strong drink, or eating anything unclean”.
That is God’s Good Advice for every Mother who wants her child to avoid “Confusion Headaches” that keep them from living up to God’s potential!
That Parental Advice is echoed in Today’s Psalm 71:6. “From my mother’s womb you are my strength.”
Another miraculous pregnancy! Luke 1:5-25 tells us of John the Baptist, born among the people saved by Samson. “But the angel said to him, ‘Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall name him John.
And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord.
He will drink neither wine nor strong drink.
He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother’s womb, and he will turn many of the children of Israel
to the Lord their God.'”
What was John the Baptist’s mission in life? “He will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of fathers toward children and the disobedient to the understanding of the righteous, to prepare a people fit for the Lord.”
Like Samson, John the Baptist would “get people ready for Jesus!” His Mother, Elizabeth, would not only avoid “wine and strong drink” but also would go “into seclusion for five months” so her son would suffer no corruption in her womb.”
Catholic Mothers and Fathers have a lot to think about as we get ready for Christmas!
