How big is God?  The Prophet Elijah tells us in 1 Kings, 19:9.

“At the mountain of God, Horeb, Elijah came to a cave, where he took shelter.  But the word of the LORD came to him, “Go outside and stand on the mountain before the LORD;  the LORD will be passing by.”
A strong and heavy wind was rending the mountains and crushing rocks before the LORD—but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake—but the LORD was not in the earthquake.  After the earthquake there was fire—but the LORD was not in the fire.
After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound.
When he heard this, Elijah hid his face in his cloak and went and stood at the entrance of the cave.”

God is The “the tiny whispering sound”The Tiny Whispering Sound” was the cause of a wind so powerful that it was “rending the mountains and crushing rocks”!   God is The Cause.  All Creation is His effect.  Just as Genghis Khan created a huge nation that stretched from China to Poland, God has created all there is.

Catholic Fundamentalism sees a connection between Isaiah’s description of God and the portraying of Him as “the man behind the curtain” in the “Wizard of Oz.”

Many of us are blessed to see that God’s Power does not depend on His size!  We realize that our tiny souls are living electric charges.  Barely bigger than electrons or photons, our souls control the trillions of cells in our bodies.

If human proportions eflect God, He may be seen as a fraction of a trillionth of the Universe He Spoke into Being.

We who meaningfully respect God’s Decree, “Let there be light.” also respect His Great Church-Founding Decree:

“. . I say unto you thou art Peter and on this rock I build My Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I give you the keys to The Kingdom of Heaven. . .”

How big is God?  Big enough to speak both “light” and The Catholic Church into Being!
