How Many Demons Can One Person Have?

As we watch various kinds of lunatic behavior in our fellow human programs, at least two conclusions can be formed:  1.  Crazy people have something wrong with their minds.  Or, 2.  They are possessed by destructive demons that have corrupted their thinking process.

A century of psycho-analysis has done little, if anything, to solve the problem of  people thinking, saying, and doing destructive things.  So, we may reasonably consider that some problems are actually caused by demonic possession.   The crazier a person, the more demons are working within his or her mind.

A “hoarder”, who’s filled his home with garbage may have a handful of demons working to concentrate his thoughts on “more”.  A miser more worried about accumulating money than about helping others may have similar demons of a more upscale nature.

When we want to describe the activities of  a crazed serial killer, we may conclude that there may be dozens, even hundreds,  of demons driving destructive, damnable behavior.

Catholic Fundamentalism encourages us to look at demonic possession as real because the Bible tells us about people who have been controlled by them.  Mark 5; 1-20 contains the following passage about a man possessed by demons:

“Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside.
And they (the demons within the demoniac) pleaded with Him (Jesus),
“Send us into the swine. Let us enter them.”
And He let them, and the unclean spirits came out and entered the swine.
The herd of about two thousand rushed down a steep bank into the sea,
where they were drowned.”

While having 2,000 demons within one mind seems amazing, one can be sure that the owners of the pigs knew exactly how many hogs they had.  They would have dragged their drowned porkers ashore to be butchered and sold. An accurate count would have been made.  Today, and maybe then, the swineherds would threaten Jesus with a lawsuit for damages.

The exorcism of the man so possessed was included in Scripture to let us know just how crazy as it’s possible for a person to be.   This passage tells us two other things:  it tells us how real demons are, and how no one but Jesus had the spiritual p0wer to expel them.

One may conclude “Every human program has within its mind two thousand places that can be corrupted by occupying demons?”  Then, we ask,  “Do those 2,000 possible habitats of demons exist in every human mind?  If so, do I have some demons encouraging pride, envy, greed, gluttony, anger, lust, or sloth  in my own mind?  How can I get rid of them?”

The obvious answer is to ask for help from the only Being Who has been recorded with the power to drive away the corrupting viruses.  His is the road to sanity and salvation.  We will find on that road many who are quite comfortable with their own demons and who will discourage us from wanting to be saner (closer to God) than they.  That feeling, of course, is prompted by a demon.
