Jude, prophet for our time

The Letter of Jude is near the end of The New Testament. It has one chapter of 23 verses. After reading it in a few minutes, one sees that Jude predicted the recent scandals. Consider Jude, prophet for our time.

Jude, verses 2-5: “Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people. For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.”
His phrase “For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you.” perfectly describes the infiltration of those full of sin in our time. And, their danger was so great that it “compelled” him to focus on contending with them, rather than “the salvation that we share”. The sin had put the Church’s ability to provide Salvation in danger.

Jude describes The Church’s recent battle with the sinful so well that it could have been written any time in the past half-century.

Jude, prophet for our time, accurately describes the nature of recent infiltrators: “They are ungodly people, who pervert the the grace of our God into a license for immorality. . .” It is rare that something written two thousand years ago so perfectly predicts the fifty year period that came to a recent end as the sinful people were removed from the priesthood.

This reads directly on the recent scandals when two waves of infiltrators sneaked into The Church. From 1930 to 1970, Communists and sympathizers wormed their way into The Church. They also infiltrated intelligence agencies of all the Western Democracies. Bella Dodd, high-ranking Communist turned Catholic, said Communists were enraged at The Church for having stopped the Communists from taking over Spain.

“The Party infiltrated over 1,100 men into The Catholic priesthood.” she reported, after converting to Catholicism. The first wave of infiltrators opened the doors of seminaries and dioceses for those given over to sins of the flesh.

Jude tells us what happened to them and warning those of our age: “Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.”

The Letter of Jude then reminds us that God chained the disobedient angels whom in hell, He writes of what God did to Sodom, Gomorrah, and all within.

Catholics see that Jude, prophet for our time, predicted the recent scandals with some specificity. Those inclined to bring further scandals should heed. Jude’s description of what God did to those who willfully disobeyed His commands in the past is his prophecy of what God will do to them in our time, too.
