Every June, thousands of institutions of higher education graduate millions of people who are looking for jobs. Many of them, sadly, were convinced to major in things like Anthropology, or Sustainability, or Sociology. They are facing long periods, maybe lifetimes, of un- or under-employment. Desperation grows as quickly as the interest accumulates on their school loans.
Many of them had planned to get jobs in the environmental movement. Unfortunately for such concerned and idealistic souls, there are few new jobs in those already over-crowded fields of endeavor. The few employers who provide jobs for those good at telling the lies that 80% of the population are now tired of hearing have few, if any openings. They are more concerned with making sure that their own paychecks keep coming.
Starbucks is always an option. The money isn’t good, and it’s not much harder than being in grad school. But, loans aren’t piling up as fast. And, it has slightly higher status than McDonald’s.
Some grow angry when their “studies” fail to provide employment. They may begin to identify with demonstrators and demonstrations on TV. There are more demonstrations than ever being broadcast on “Union Fairness”. Lots of college graduates are smart enough to see that those demonstrators are all getting paid, by the unions. Many will gravitate toward working for unions in the hopes of being a “union spokesperson”. The main requirement is to be loud, impassioned, and to have successfully overcome any tendency toward sustained, rational analyses.
No one ever thinks they should be mad at the colleges and universities who so successfully bamboozled them into ruining their lives. Instead of focusing on those who quite intentionally caused their problems, (department heads attend seminars where they learn to convince students to major in drivel like “Women’s Studies”), they just get mad at the world.
Those who are angry tend to trend with others who are mad at the world. Growing numbers of demonstrations professionally appear to be spontaneous outbursts to stop the unfair treatment of Moslems, a very large and wealthy group with a near-universal predilection for being mad at the world. Some of those demonstrators are very well paid.
Some angry people have found there are openings for those who can pretend to be “even-handed observers” who are “very worried about what Islamophobia is doing to America”. Salaries may increase if they’ve converted. Such employment may provide jobs for recent, angry graduates. A good solid background and knowledge of history, and awareness of lynching homosexuals, honor killings, women’s rights, or clitorectomies is not an asset.
