Today’s Reading lets us see why many in the lower-end Pastor Bobisms are hostile toward Mary. Their vanity has made them unable to fear God and blinds them to His Love for His Blessed Mother. They grow disobedient to the very Bible in which they profess belief.
Lk 1:46-56 tells us about The Mother of God. “Mary said: ‘My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for He has looked upon His lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is His Name. He has mercy on those who fear Him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, and has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. He has come to the help of His servant Israel for He remembered His promise of mercy, the promise He made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children for ever.’”
The Bible is clear: Mary’s spirit rejoices in God, “my Savior” for His favor. She tells this prophetic truth: “From this day all generations will call me blessed.” From that day, those in every generation have called her “blessed”. We see how specific Mary is: she does not say “All people will call me blessed.” but correctly predicts there will be some in “every generation” who will understand enough to do so.
Mary tells us that “The Almighty has done great things for me. . .” Sadly, many Protestants comprehend no greater understanding than the simplistic “She gave birth to Jesus. That’s it.” No loving Mother of God for them, a reflection of that lack in their own lives.
A sentence of staggering importance: “He has mercy on those who fear Him in every generation.” We see that The Mother of God does NOT tell us that He has mercy on those who merely believe in Him. He has mercy on those who “fear Him”. The three steps to Catholicism are belief, fear, and obedience. Mary tells each believer the importance of obedience thirty years later, when she tells the workers at the Wedding Feast of Cana, “Do what He tells you.”
The “He” in that sentence is one of the first references to The Trinity. The Blessed Mother of God knew that Her Son was God, One with The Father and The Spirit. So, the “He” in “He has mercy on those who fear Him.” includes not only Jesus but The Entire Trinity. Mary is the first to address the reality that she was the first to understand: The Father, The Holy Spirit, and Her Blessed Son, Jesus, Second Person of The Trinity.
“He has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones. . .” was obvious to all. Kingdoms had crumbled and were crashing down before the power of Rome as God prepared the world for the Disciples to spread His Saving Grace throughout the scattered Tribes and other peoples of the world. Roman roads were being “made straight” for the Gospel message as Catholic Saints and Scholars would spread the Holy Word.
“He has filled the hungry with good things. . .” is a reference to the coming Communion that brought into being His Winnowing Command “If you do not eat My Body and drink My Blood you do not have life in you.”
The passage concluded: “Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months and then returned to her home.” Just as the infant John “leapt” when Mary and the tiny baby Jesus appeared, he and his mother and Mary lived in Heavenly joy that came fromhaving God so near to them for those blessed months.
Those who say “I believe in The Bible.” must try to comprehend that Luke quotes Mary: “Be Catholic!” is her clear command, echoed in our beloved Bible. Jesus loved and obeyed His Blessed Mother. If we are to be as Jesus, we should love and obey Mary, as well.
