There is a group of people who follow a principle similar to that of Bastiat: “Treat all economic questions from the viewpoint of the consumer, for the interests of the consumer are the interests of the human race.” In other words, if a person has a less expensive way of doing, making, or providing something, consumers should have access to it. The lower costs thus generated will make all more prosperous.

Another group believes that existing sources of supply should not be interrupted, so that “economic stability” can be maintained.
