Protestantism’s downhill slide

Protestantism’s downhill slide begins when a Catholic decides:

“Catholic Teaching gets in my way! I want to divorce and remarry. I want to use artificial birth control. I want to avoid being inconvenienced by a child. I want better social and business contacts. I want to do things that The Catholic Church forbids.”

+

They begin with: “I believe in Jesus and The Bible. I will find a denomination that believes in Jesus and The Bible.”

The downhill slide accelerates: “I need to find a denomination I can relate to!”

They choose one of the 45,000 Marketing Plans that have turned into that many Protestant denominations.

+

Over time, denominations disappear. Their aging congregations do not have many children. People in dying denominations prefer “Solid, traditional ministers.”

Their children do not. They subconsciously realize: “I miss the brothers and sisters my parents avoided having.”

Protestantism’s downhill slide continues.

+

“I want a denomination that’s fun! I want a denomination that makes me ‘feel good about myself’.”

There are lots of those! New ones pop up every day. The Profiteers of Protestantism have gone to school. “We make Christianity fun and relevant at the same time!”

Their “theologies” are based on: “You are a good person! You are going to Heaven because you believe in Jesus! I will keep telling you that as long as you keep giving me money!”

+

Protestantism’s downhill slide continues. “Why do I need to hear the same self-serving nonsense every Sunday? I can read The Bible for myself! I don’t need to pay Pastor Bob any more. After all, I am a good person and I believe in Jesus!”

Soon, the personal drive to “Read The Bible!” disappears. Another poor soul and family hits the end of Protestantism’s downhill slide.

+

There is a high price to pay, often for generations, by all who willfully choose to disobey The Only Church-Founding Decree of Jesus:

“And I say unto you thou art Peter and on this rock I build My Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I give you the keys to The Kingdom of Heaven.”
