St. John tells us to be Catholic in seven sentences!

St. John tells us to be Catholic in seven sentences!  1 John, 5: 18-21 includes:

1. “We know that anyone begotten by God does not sin;  but the one begotten by God He protects, and the Evil One cannot touch him.”

The “evil one” cannot touch Jesus!  He tried!  He failed.

~

2. “We know that we belong to God, and the whole world is under the power of the Evil One.”

The devil and his disobedient followers were thrown out of Heaven.  They are on earth, bringing hate, lies, confusion, death, and destruction wherever they can.

~

3. “We also know that the Son of God has come and has given us discernment to know the one who is true.”

Jesus said:  “You are My friends if you obey My commands.”   Those who follow anything but Jesus are worshiping false idols.

~

4. “We also know that the Son of God has come and has given us discernment to know The One Who is true.

“The One Who is True” is Jesus.  His truth includes the Holy Word with Which He Spoke The Only Church He Founded Into Being.  “And I say unto you thou art Peter and on this rock I build My Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I give you the keys to The Kingdom of Heaven.”

~

5.  “And we are in The One Who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ.  Catholics are in The Body of Christ on earth.

~

6.  “He is the true God and eternal life.”  Outside of Jesus, there are only false gods and death.

~

7. “Children, be on your guard against idols.”  “idols” include any person, thing, or idea that is loved more than Jesus.  Every person who puts any thing, person, or idea ahead of Jesus worships “idols”.

St. John tells us to be “on your guard against idols.”  That means that we, with the power of prayer, may keep ourselves safe from all that leads us to disobey Jesus.   We must not protest against Jesus or The Only Church He Spoke Into Being.

St. John tells us to be Catholic in seven sentences!  Catholics understand that those who choose to follow “idols” are letting themselves fall “under the power of the evil one”.
