Today’s Reading comes from John 6: 22-29.

It includes a Teaching from Jesus Christ that has attracted The Profiteers of Protestantism for 2,000 years!

“Jesus answered them and said, ‘Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled.'”

Jesus knew that!  He had just fed 5,000 men, and their wives and children, with a few “loaves and fishes”.  They had watched as He multiplied those scraps of food.

They realized!  “If Jesus Christ can do that with food, He can do that with money!  He can make us all rich!”

Jesus knew!  That’s why they followed Him!

~

“He warned them!   ‘Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life,  which the Son of Man will give you.  For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.'”

(What is that “food that endures”?  It is The Body and Blood of Jesus Christ provided by Catholic priests in The Miracle of Transubstantiation!   Jesus told us, fourteen times, how important That Holy Food is!  “If you do not eat My Body and drink My Blood you do not have life in you.’”)

What did the crowd say?

“So they said to him,  ‘What can we do to accomplish the works of God?’  Jesus answered and said to them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.’”

That’s where The Profiteers of Protestantism make The Big Mistake!   They tell their donors:  “All that we need to do is  ‘believe in the one He sent'”!

~

Catholics know better!  We know that another Word of Jesus calls us to do more than merely “believe”!

“You are My friends if you obey My commands.” (emphasis added)

For 2,000 years, The Profiteers of Protestantism have been telling their donors:  “You only need to ‘believe’!   You do not need to obey Every Teaching of Jesus Christ.  I have given you that easy way to get to Heaven.  Now, give me some money!”

That’s Protestantism!
