Understanding the reason for environmentalism:

Recently, officials of several cities on the West Coast professed themselves to be mightily concerned about “the environment”. “The environment must be protected from plastic bags.”, they announced. “Therefore, we are putting a twenty to twenty-five cent tax on each and every plastic bag.”

Nationwide, this tax will raise billions of dollars to feed the same “public servants” who are most concerned about “the environment”.

From their point of view, it’s ideal. We can easily project this tax spreading. Three hundred million Americans, standing obediently in line each week with enough money in their pockets to buy food, can be more easily separated from another couple of dollars than at any other time.

“The fools won’t even notice!”, the tax-addicts tell each other. “And, if they do, what can they do about it?”
