What Do Demons Eat?

Demons feed on our sins and grow stronger with each temptation we embrace.

Seven Sins

Just as “there are many mansions in My Father’s house” (John 14:2), each human soul contains seven hidden chambers where demons lie in wait. These demons pride, envy, greed, gluttony, anger, lust, and sloth seek to dominate our thoughts and actions. They are the slumlords of the soul, corrupting what is meant to be holy.

Each demon feeds on the sin it embodies. Pride consumes arrogance. Lust devours impurity. Sloth swallows our zeal for prayer and virtue. These spiritual parasites thrive on the moral decay we permit in our minds.

Feeding the Darkness

Demons are energized by our sinful thoughts. When we entertain temptations, we nourish them. As the *Catechism* teaches, *”sin creates a proclivity to sin; it engenders vice by repetition of the same acts”* (CCC 1865). The more often we give in, the stronger their grip becomes.

Every indulgence in envy or gluttony deepens their roots. Each selfish act strengthens them. Their goal is destruction of virtue, of families, and of souls.

The Danger of Temptation

Temptations are not sins in themselves, but they are dangerous. They are “near occasions of sin,” which we are called to avoid. Temptation opens the door to demonic influence.

Scripture warns us plainly: *”Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”* (James 4:7). But resistance requires vigilance. When we see pride or lust creeping in, we must shut the door firmly and flee to prayer and sacrament.

Pride: The Root of All Sin

The devil fell because of pride. Today, many imitate him by declaring themselves wiser than Christ. Some even deny the authority Jesus gave Peter: *”You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church… I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven”* (Matthew 16:18-19). Such pride invites demonic presence.

Pride leads souls to reject Church teaching, especially on issues like life and morality. When people say, “Jesus was wrong,” they fall into deadly delusion. The result? Widespread acceptance of abortion, contraception, and spiritual death.

Demons Devour the Soul

When sins go unconfessed and unchecked, the demons within grow fat. They feast on love twisted into lust, truth denied by pride, and souls lost to despair. In hell, they gnaw endlessly at the souls they dragged down.

But grace can starve them. *”If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness”* (1 John 1:9). The sacraments are weapons. The Rosary is a shield. Eucharist is light that drives them away.

Final Word: What Do Demons Eat?

They eat what we surrender to sin: our love, our truth, and our very souls. But by choosing holiness, we starve them. We win back freedom. And in Christ, we are made new.
