What is “the pearl of great price?”  “Catholics see / what it may be!”

The Bible mentions “the pearl of great price”.    What is “the pearl of great price?”  “Catholics see / what it may be!”

Here’s the passage :  Mt. 13:  45-46.

~”Catholics see / What a pearl may be!”~

One of the most amazing passages in The Bible is the description of The New Jerusalem.  It is the “City that comes down from Heaven” in Rev. 21: 14-27.

“The plan of the City is perfectly square, it’s length is the same as its breadth.  He measured the city with his rod and it was 12,000 furlongs in and in breadth and equal in height.”

How big is that?  One furlong is 660 feet.  660 feet times 12,000 furlongs shows that The Heavenly City is a cube that is 7,920,000 feet on all sides.   Divide that by 5,280 to see the distance in miles.  The Heavenly City is a perfect cube 1,500 miles long, wide, and high!  That is the actual size of The Heavenly City!

~

Catholics do the simple multiplication.  1,500 times 1,500 times = 2,250,000.  That’s how many square miles are in The City!  We multiply that by it’s height of 1,500 miles.   We see The Heavenly City contains 3,375,000,000 cubic miles!

How big is that?  Compare it to the moon!   The moon contains 5.2 billion cubic miles of material.   The Heavenly City is over half as big as the moon!

~How does “The Pearl of Great Price” fit in?~

The largest, perfect pearl on earth is about 20 mm, a little over 3/4 of one inch.

There are twelve gates in The Heavenly City, three gates on each side.   Rev 12:12,  “the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate being made of a single pearl”.

The City of Heaven is a cube that’s more than half as big as the moon!  The only way to get in is through one of the “gates”.   Each of “twelve gates” to “The City of Heaven” is about as big as our thumbnail!

Catholics understand many truths that others do not.  When we see the “pearl of great price”, we sell “all that we have” and we buy it!

Catholics obey the clear call to Catholic Communion that Jesus repeated fourteen times:  “If you do not eat My Body and drink My Blood you do not have life in you.”

That gets us through “the narrow gate”!

There are 12 “narrow gates” to “The City of God”.   Each is a “pearl of great price”!
