Question 1: “Who was The First Profiteer of Protestantism?”

Answer: “Today’s Reading from John 12:1-11 tells us. ‘Six days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. They gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served, while Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with him.

Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.’

Question 2: “What did the first Profiteer of Protestantism do?”

Answer: “‘Then Judas the Iscariot, one of His disciples, and the one who would betray Him, said, ‘Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days’ wages and given to the poor?’

Question 3: “Was Judas rightly concerned about helping the ‘poor’?”

Answer: “St. John explains the true nature of Judas! ‘He said this not because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief and held the money bag and used to steal the contributions.’

Question 4: “Judas was a Profiteer! Why did he protest against obeying Jesus?”

Answer: “Jesus knew that Judas hated to see money going anywhere but to him! Jesus may have raised His Voice and expressed outrage at Judas. ‘So Jesus said, ‘Leave her alone.’ There may have been an explanation point in that strong statement that was heard by all nearby: ‘Leave her alone!’.”

Question 5: “What did Jesus say after that?”

Answer: “Jesus made a Public Prophecy! ‘Let her keep this for the day of My burial. You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.’

Question 6: “Did that public rebuke from Jesus about his ‘profiteering’ drive Judas to ‘protest’ against Jesus to the authorities in the days that followed?”

Answer: “What else could it be?”
