From Today’s Reading, Psalm 9;5

“You rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked;
their name you blotted out forever and ever.
The nations are sunk in the pit they have made;
in the snare they set, their foot is caught.”

The First Programming Log makes it clear that large groups of people (nations) destroy themselves with their own policies. In a nutshell, they destroy themselves by feeding The Tapeworm that grows on bigger government.

After the Mohammedan fleet was destroyed at the great victory at Lepanto, in 1571, it became more difficult to support their government by continual looting and enslaving expeditions along Europe’s Mediterranean coast. Soon, their silver coins were “as thin as willow leaves”. Their leaders destroyed their government’s finances by choosing to support the huge, largely useless bureaucracy necessary to run an empire that suddenly lost its major source of funding.

From Babylon to today, “the nations are (continue to sink) sunk in the pit they have made”.
