A serious moral dilemma.

Most organizations provide medical benefits and most people who are employed receive them.  A serious moral dilemma faces those of us who are pro-life and provide or receive medical benefits.

Providing medical benefits has long been thought to be a laudable practice.  Most medical plans include payments for prescription drugs.  Prescription drugs include birth control pills.   Many birth control pills work by keeping a fertilized egg from attaching itself to the womb.

That causes the tiniest of babies to die.

A person who believes that abortion is wrong may unknowingly cause the deaths of the very smallest children by providing or using some birth control pills.

What’s the best thing to do?

If an organization cannot avoid providing the kind of medical plan that allows people to purchase birth control pills that keep the littlest of children alive, a letter may be written to those who receive the medical benefit:

Dear ___________:

As you know, our organization has been providing medical benefits to associates for several years.  Some birth control methods covered under our health plan causes the smallest of unborn babies to die.   Your physician can help you make the right decisions in this very serious matter.

Sincerely,

Those who use birth control are often unaware of what the birth control pills are doing.  This helps them understand the results.  That is necessary to understand the moral implications of what some forms of birth control do.  It also helps each person be more responsible for their decisions.
