The Scourge of God

Attila the Hun was described as “The Scourge of God”. It was widely supposed that He was was sent to visit God’s wrath upon a sinful people. Similarly, other tyrants from Nero have been thought of as having been given power to bring God’s punishment on a disobedient world.

In the Middle East, a once Christian region, God’s scourges have been so effective there are hardly any Christians remaining. One wonders why He has allowed this to happen, even while realizing it’s impossible to deny that it has happened. Once-Christian Egypt has been undergoing a similar religious “cleansing”. Moslems routinely beat, rob, rape, and kill Christians. God could stop it with a few lighting bolts. Or, He could raise a new Tamerlane, sweeping through the Moslem nations, destroying all in his path.

One wonders why He has not sent a scourge to protect Christians in Eurasia from the coming bloodbath. Instead, it is the Christians who are taxed and threatened. But, it is also the Christians who have instituted the hated crime of abortion in countries that once worshipped Him in all His Fullness. Between abortion and spilling our seed on the ground with various chemicals and birth control devices, we have been led into serious, mortal sin. We dare not ask for justice, but can only plea for mercy.
