Jesus said to the crowds, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. . . . For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.”
“See!”, say many Protestants, “Jesus said that everyone believes in Him may have eternal life! I don’t have to be Catholic!” Protestants stop reading too soon.
If they read a little farther, to John 6: 51, they would see that Jesus becomes clearer: “I am the living bread which has come down from Heaven. Anyone who eats of this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh for the life of the world.”
Then, in John 6:53, He becomes more direct: “I tell you most solemnly, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink His Blood, you will not have life in you.”
As if that is not clear and direct enough, He continues in John 6: 54 “Anyone who does eat My flesh and drink My Blood has eternal life and I shall raise him up on the last day.”
To be sure that even the less intelligent could understand, He Who Fulfilled The Prophecies repeated twelve times in John, 6: “If you do not eat My Body and drink My Blood you do not have life in you.”
Those overwhelmed by vanity ignore His clear call to Catholic Communion in The Only Church He Founded!
A self-centered Protestant pride leads them to refuse to receive His Body and Blood in Catholic Communion. The vain refuse to do what is necessary to “have life in” them.
