Micro-Catholicism helps us see the power of prayer.

When we pray, we are sending a request for help to God. What happens when we pray? Micro-Catholicism helps us see the power of prayer.

The simple fact is that we do not even know how we are able to talk to another person.

We have desires. Our desires turn into thoughts. Our thoughts turn into words. We breathe out through our larynx. Our tongue and mouth turn the energy of air passing through our larynx into words.

No one knows how that incredible complexity happens. But, we know that it does.

We are eating. Some tiny electrons in our brain responded to our taste buds. Something said to our brain, “This food needs salt.”

A tiny part of our brain registered that incredibly complicated awareness of the need for more sodium chloride atoms to be sprinkled on our food.

Our awareness turned into a desire. That desire turned into a thought. The thought sought a solution. The thought found a solution in a nearby part of our brain. The solution turned into words in another part of our brain.

Other parts of our brain moved the many, many muscles in our tongue and mouth to turn the energy of air passing through our larynx to form words.

We spoke those words: “Please, pass the salt.”

+

All that, and far more, happened in the blink of an eye.

Each awareness of our complexity lets us realize how precious life is.

+

When there is no person around who can help us, we ask God to assist us. “God, please help me! I can’t find my key!”

We discovered that we needed a key. We couldn’t find it. No one could help us find them. So, we asked God. The same thought that would have gone to another person now goes to God.

That thought went into our brain. Then, it went out of our brain. It went to God. What is it that goes to God?

We see that the prayer has to be something.

+

We do have a dim idea of atoms and electrons. We know of radio-waves. Our thoughts are something between electrons and radio-waves.

Thoughts race around in our minds. We sometimes write or speak them. When we speak to God, what does He hear?

He hears the cries from our heart.
