Blaise Pascal (1623-1662) was a brilliant man.  He invented a mechanical calculating machine, 400 years ago!  The same brilliance allowed him to invent “Statistics”.  Pascal thought logically about Who Jesus Is.

“Pascal’s Wager” is an IQ Test!  It tells us who is smart enough to make “the best bet”.

“If I wager for God, and God is, I have infinite gain.”  Conversely, “If I wager for God, and He is not, I have no loss.”

“If I wager against God and God is, I have infinite loss.  If I wager against God and God is not, I have neither loss nor gain.”

+

“Pascal’s Wager” is not merely betting on God’s Existence.  “Pascal’s Wager” is whether or not to bet that we should obey God!

Pascal knew that many did not want to obey God.  He knew it is an insult to God to disobey His Teaching.

+

Pascal brilliantly described the shallowness of disobedience in his collected thoughts, Pensées.  Paragraph 427 explains.  “We know well enough how people in this (Protestant) frame of mind behave.  They think they have made great efforts to learn when they have spent a few hours reading some book of The Bible, and have questioned some ecclesiastics about the truths of the faith.  After that, they boast that they have sought without success in books and among men.”

+

What did Pascal tell those shallow people?

“.  . I should say to them what I have often said;  such negligence is intolerable.”

Why is disobedience “intolerable” to the great genius?

“It is not a question here of the trifling interest of some stranger prompting such behavior:  It is is a question of ourselves and our all.”

How will we bet?  The right bet brings eternal joy to “our all”.  The wrong bet brings everlasting agony to “our all”.

+

Pascal is an IQ Test for Protestants!  Those who make “the smart bet” obey Jesus and His Church-Founding Decree:

“And I say unto you thou art Peter and on this rock I build My Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I give you the keys to The Kingdom of Heaven.”

Those who do not make “the smart bet” lose access to the only “keys to The Kingdom of Heaven” that Jesus left on earth!
