Catholics clearly see many overlooked “Miracles” in this Simple Passage! #3.

Only Catholics can see this many Miracles in the Passage illustrated by This Wonderful Painting of Jesus driving the moneylenders out of The Temple.

~

Question 1:  “What overlooked ‘Miracles’ do Catholics see in Today’s Reading?”

Answer:  “John 2:13-25 tells us about one of the most amazing ‘Miracles’ in The Bible!

‘Since the Passover of the Jews was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.  He found in the Temple area those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, as well as money changers sitting there.  He made a whip out of cords and drove all of them out of the temple area, with the sheep and oxen.  He spilled the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.  To those who sold doves, He said, ‘Take these out of here, and stop makng My Father’s house a marketplace.’

~

Question 2:  “Why is that such a ‘Miracle’?

Answer: “The brilliant Jewish historian, Josephus, tells us that over 2,000,000 Jewish pilgrims were in Jerusalem during most ‘Passovers’.  They brought foreign currency from all over the world.

Armed companies of Temple guards kept things safe in the 7 hectares (17 acres) of The Temple Mount while many, many millions of dollars were spread out over thousands of the ‘money-changers’ tables’.  Only a ‘Miracle’ could have given Jesus the power to drive thousands of ‘sellers and moneychangers out of the temple area’ with a simple ‘whip made out of cords’ .

Another ‘Miracle’ kept squads of armed and armored guards from protecting the profiteers in what became the largest ‘marketplace’ in the world at every Passover from one man with one small ‘whip made of cords’. ”

~

Question 3:  “Those are ‘Miracles’!  What other ‘Miracle’ did Jesus provide?”

Answer:  “After Jesus had cleared the ‘Temple, He made an earth-changing Prophecy.   ‘At this the Jews answered and said to him, ‘What sign can You show us for doing this?’

‘Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.’

‘The Jews said, ‘This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days?’

‘But He was speaking about the temple of His body.’

~

Question 4:  “What was the ‘Miracle’ in that?”

Answer:  “Jesus had prophesied His Own Resurrection from the dead three days after He died on The Cross.  That Prophesy gave His Chosen Disciples, The First Catholic Bishops, this awareness of His Holiness that allowed His One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church to spread over the world:

‘Therefore, when he was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this, and they came to believe the Scripture and The Word Jesus had spoken.’

~

Question 5:  “Is there another ‘Miracle’ in Today’s Reading?”

Answer:  “This ‘Miracle’ took place:  ‘While he was in Jerusalem for the feast of Passover,  many began to believe in His Name when they saw the signs He was doing.'”

~

Question 6:  “Is there another ‘Miracle’ in that Passage?”

Answer:  “Jesus gave us a great insight into people who would believe things without serious consideration:  ‘While He was in Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, many began to believe in His name when they saw the signs He was doing.’

~

Question 7:  “Is there another ‘Miracle’ in That Passage?”

Answer:  “Jesus gives us a ‘miraculously’ good reason not to trust our usual enthusiasms:  ‘He did not need anyone to testify about human nature. He himself understood it well.’

~

Question 8:  “Can there be any more ‘Miracles’ in that Passage?”

Answer:  “Catholics know that ‘we are made in the image of God’.  We logically conclude:  Since Jesus was a ‘temple’, then our mind and body can also be a ‘temple’.  We must not be polluted by any sort of sin that would lead us to reject This, or Any Word, of Jesus:

‘And I say unto you thou art Peter and on this rock I build My Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.  I give you the keys to The Kingdom of Heaven.’

May God bless us all to see and live by the ‘Miracles’ in Every Word of Jesus.
