Statin drugs, Lipitor, etc.

Googling “cholesterol fraud” is an interesting experience. One horror story after another reports about the harmful effects of statin drugs on the body.

Few in the Cholesterol-fighting Industry explain that cholesterol is produced in the body by our liver. Even fewer in that Industry ask even simple questions: “If people’s livers are producing cholesterol, isn’t it likely that they’re responding to needs of which some area of the mind is aware.? Do different people have different needs for their cholesterol?”

Those in the Industry are clever marketers. They have convinced hundreds of millions of the insane belief that there is “Good” cholesterol and “Bad” cholesterol. Then, with straight faces, they take the numbers, compare them to some chart supplied by the cholesterol companies, and announce how well the patient is doing. Most of us are trained to listen to doctors and to want their approval. As a result, many obediently do what their doctors solemnly tell them, and take various statin drugs so that their “Good Cholesterol” numbers and their “Bad Cholesterol” numbers are “ideal”. No one snickers during this process, not even the nearby nurse taking notes.

The sad thing is that so many of us are so incredibly trusting and credulous we never question the absurdity of using harsh, liver-stopping chemicals to shut down their own livers. This lack of common sense is, in fact, far more dangerous than elevated cholesterol levels.

My father is 89. He believes and trusts his doctors. He can barely walk, falls frequently, has problems getting his nerves and muscles to work effectively together, and takes his Lipitor religiously. He, unfortunately, has no other religion, and this particular set of beliefs he has embraced is killing him.

The statin drug manufacturers don’t seem to care. Neither do his doctors.
