The Failure of Democracy?

The ongoing collapse of financial markets is a direct result of a big lie, “Your government needs to raise your taxes to help you.”

That leads to another, bigger lie: “You need more help. Your government can provide that help, but only if it expands. The only way we can be large enough to help you more is by raising your taxes.”

The two lies produce systems that, like tapeworms in a human body, add new segments until the host is made so weak it is destroyed by outside forces.
