Luke, 7; 1-10
“When Jesus had finished all his words to the people,
he entered Capernaum.
A centurion there had a slave who was ill and about to die,
and he was valuable to him.
When he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to him,
asking him to come and save the life of his slave.
They approached Jesus and strongly urged him to come, saying,
“He deserves to have you do this for him,
for he loves our nation and he built the synagogue for us.”
And Jesus went with them,
but when he was only a short distance from the house,
the centurion sent friends to tell him,
“Lord, do not trouble yourself,
for I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof.
Therefore, I did not consider myself worthy to come to you;
but say the word and let my servant be healed.
For I too am a person subject to authority,
with soldiers subject to me.
And I say to one, Go, and he goes;
and to another, Come here, and he comes;
and to my slave, Do this, and he does it.”
When Jesus heard this he was amazed at him
and, turning, said to the crowd following him,
“I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.”
When the messengers returned to the house,
they found the slave in good health.”
The Centurion respected the Jewish faith so much that he built a synagogue for local Jews So, when his slave was sick, he sent the Jewish elders he had helped to ask Jesus to heal his servant.
When the soldier thought about his request, he compared his own situation in life with He Whom he miraculously knew Jesus to be. “I don’t have to have Him come to my house. He has angels (sub-programmers) at His command. He can have my servant’s program restored from wherever He is.” So, he sent his friends to tell Him not to bother coming to his home. “Since You are more powerful than I, You can send spiritual forces to do your bidding, the same way I can send those in my command to do my will on the tiny piece of earth over which Caesar has given me authority.”
Jesus was so impressed with the Centurion’s faith and understanding that He told the crowd following Him that the Roman Officer had understood Him and His Mission better than the Jews, or any of the Tribes. He then sent an angelic sub-programmer to erase the errors in the servant’s mind and body program and to provide the Programming Assistance to restore his human program.
Similarly, we Catholic Fundamentalists ask Him to provide Programming Assistance from Programming Assistants for us as we face problems that we need help to solve.
