A funnel directs flow. The Word of God directs the flow of souls.

All Christians have some beliefs in common. The Apostle’s Creed sums up what most Christians believe: “I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.

Over a billion people believe all, or parts, of that. Many believe that merely believing is enough to attain eternal joy.

Others think things may not be that simple. We were told “Many are called, few are chosen.” Some who call themselves “Christian” believe that abortion is all right. Others accept beliefs and practices that are condemned in Scripture. They can hardly be called “chosen”.

Jesus said things that separate the more obedient from the less obedient. The more obedient heed the most bizarre injunction in any religion: “If you do not eat My Body and drink My Blood you do not have life in you.”

The only way to do that is to receive Catholic Communion. The path narrows.

Jesus also said “Husbands, love your wives.” and “Wives, love your husbands.” Some obey. The path narrows.

He also gave ordained priests, in a living link with the apostles He ordained to began The Only Church He Founded, the power to forgive sins. Some take advantage. The path narrows.

For every human, the path narrows. Life is like a funnel. New life is continually poured in. Much of it overflows over the top, some is forced up and over the top through the various whirlpools within. Some remain obedient enough to get through the narrow path, the tunnel at the end of the funnel.

His friends get through. He said, “You are My friends if you obey My commands.”

The smartest thing in the world is to pray to be obedient enough to be counted among His friends. The dumbest thing in the world is to not do so.
